Is there a reliable car rental agency near or at the train station in Chieti? Thank you for your help!
There is an Avis office just 100 or 150 meters north of the train station on Viale Benedetto Croce - I assume that this means that there will be other companies as well...I invite you to look for Hertz, EuropCar, etc.
NOTE: in smaller towns like Chieti Scalo ("scalo" means "rail stop", Chieti is a short distance away), it is common that car rental offices are open Monday through Friday 08:30-19:00 but with a siesta from 12:30-15:00, and on Saturday morning from 08:30 to 12:30, but closed all day Sunday. While these are the Avis hours, I bet they will be very similar for everyone else...make sure that you don't run afoul of these hours...
Thank you so much for your reply, Bill. I did not know that Scalo meant stop and thought it was another station in Chieti!
It's not uncommon when you have hill towns so the train can't go up to the original town, but when the station is built nearby (Chieti Scalo is maybe 2 kilometers west-north-west of Chieti itself), sometimes businesses and homes spring up around it as well. In Umbria, Chiusi and Chiusi Scalo have the same relationship.
"La città è suddivisa in due nuclei, Chieti Alta e Chieti Scalo."
The city is divided into Upper Chieti and Chieti Scalo". The Upper City has any ruins and historic buildings, while "lower" Chieti is largely commercial (which makes sense, given that it has the rail line as well as two highways).
