Can somebody tell me more about Charlottesville? I am comeing there in June and would like to explore it more before i'll get there. I heard that in July it is very boring, is it true:( ?
C'ville is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains which is a beautiful area. C'ville has quite a bit of history as it is the home of the University of Virginia which was founded by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson's home, Monticello, is just outside town and one can go there for tours. It's a nice place on top of a hill overlooking the city. There are the homes of two other past U.S. presidents in the area as well: James Monroe and James Madison. Their homes are also open to visitors.
There is a nice scenic drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia called Skyline Drive. There is also a colony of artisans in the Blue Ridge area.
It may be more boring in July because the University is out of session. There is a nice downtown walking mall with stores and restaurants. Only an hour a way is Richmond, which has quite a bit of Revolutionary and especially Civil War history. There's a quite nice art museum, Holocaust Museum, Museum of the Confederacy (Richmond was once the capital), and quite an array of good restaurants and shopping.
Washington, D.C. is just about 2 hours away and good for a day or weekend trip.
Why will you be in C'ville? How long will you be there? What are your interests?
