Looking for recommendations on where to taste and purchase from cooperative-manipulants or recoltant-cooperateur/ -manipulants (smaller houses). Will be stopping at a couple of our favourite places in Cumiers but seek a couple more which we have not visited before. Thanks in anticipation de p.
I'd like to visit the chateau in Cirey where Emilie du Chatelet and Voltaire lived in late July or early August, and I'm wondering if anyone can advise me on getting there.
1) I'd prefer not to drive; but if I have to rent a car, all I have is a valid Canadian driver's license - is that enough?
2) I know I can get to within a reasonable distance of Cirey by train, such as Bar-sur-Aube or Joinville, but I haven't had much luck finding out if there is some kind of bus or other public transportation that can get me the rest of the way there. If it's not possible to get directly from one of these places to Cirey, can I at least get closer, so that a taxi would be less expensive?
3) Is there a hotel or other accommodations available in Cirey? The closest I've been able to find so far is in Arnancourt, about 3.5 km away.
Many thanks for your help!
WILL THE ARMY HAVE THEIR TOUR OF THE DESTROYED VILLAGES THIS YEAR? IF SO WHEN? DO WE NEED TO CONTACT SOMEONE TO SIGN UP?
My wife and I will be visiting Reims and Epernay in November. We'd like to see a couple of the larger houses in Reims and then get out to the smaller houses in Epernay. However, we don't want to do a organized tour nor do we want to drive. Is it possible to take public transportation to some of the other houses?
Am I right in reading there are no weekend tours in cellars offered for weekend if I'm there first week of June 2011?

Where can I find local accommodation in Ay (as described on your current Ay web notice: Ay Champagne Lover's Dream)?

Last time I visited Champagne I saw many families living in motorhomes by the roads, they were there to harvest the grapes.
