Sorry, I have asked many questions re this problem but HELP PLEASE, we decided to use Loche as a base for a 5 day stay. We have to rely on public transport, happy to just walk in the area with a visit to a Chateau. Our problem is we would like to move onto Bayeux to see the tapestry. Have to return to Tours to pick up a train but the main problem is it will take about 6 hrs to get to Bayeux where we will only stay for 2 nights. Can anyone advise a better base for 5 days (prefer little village) with a better connection to Bayeux. As we don't know the village names it makes it difficult to enter connections into the train/bus websites. Appreciate any advice.
Staying 5 nights in Loches, can anyone advise if there are some countryside walks or maybe even taking bus to small village to do some walking. Also interested in visiting Tours, Amboise, Blois or other villages and maybe a chateau - how accessible is public transport ? Any info on things to do or see would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
My sister and me want to visit the Loire in july/august 2010 by bicycle.
We are planning to go to France by car, rent a flat for 2 weeks and make tours (castles, landscapes, ...) from the flat.
Our first idea was to look for a flat in Tours, because Tours has a railway station and we could go every by train to anonther place and make a bicycle tour from this town or village.
It seems to be difficult to get a flat in Tours, so I would like to ask, wheater there are other towns oder villages with a railway station, from where we could make tours.
I know, I am a little bit late, but I hope, someody here can help me.
Thank you very much!
HI everyone, I am planning to rent a car from Paris and make a day trip to the Loire Valley. I was hoping to visit Chateau Chenonceaux and the town of Amboise.
I’ve heard that Leonardo da Vinci lived in Amboise and that there is a museum (which used to be his home) in the city. Is that correct? Has anyone visited it? Is it worth the trip?
Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thank you all
I will be traveling from Paris to Tours. The SNCF schedule shows going from Paris to St. Pierre du Corps and then to Tours. Does one actually have to change trains? I will have a bicycle and a fair amount of luggage and might need more than the 4 minutes the schedule gives between the trains if one must change. Is the change on one level or is it one of those hard ones?
Thanks for any info.
I'll be visiting Tours in late November. We'll be basing off from Tours since our daughter is studying there. We want to take a 2-3 days trip away from Tours or a couple of day-trips or overnight trips. Our first choice is a 2-3 days trip to Normandie (St. Michel, St. Malo, Honfleur). But if the weather is bad, what other options can we fall back to? Is there much difference in the weather between Normandie and Tours, Tours and Bordeaux, for example?
Hi, Could anyone advise me re. hiring a car from & to Tours airport for three days in February? Has anyone had experience of small local companies or garages? Many thanks......
Hello. I am looking to find some reasonably prices day trip ideas for my week in France in mid-November. I will be mostly based out of Paris, but also spending time in Strasbourg. I have heard that Mont St-Michel is fantastic - how long does it take to get there, and how much does the train usually cost? I hope this isn't too many questions! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)
We want to take the train from Chartres to Paris after a biking trip in the Loire Valley. Should we buy the ticket online before we leave the US? Do we need to make a reservation, which costs more? We will be traveling on a Wednesday morning.
Can you tell me, is it easy to get to Tours from Mont St Michel? I believe I can get a train from Pontorsen to Rennes, and I can get a train from Nantes to Tours, but can I get a train from Rennes to Nantes? thanks, Elizabeth
Hi, I am planning a stay in this area in October. Does anyone know of good places to visit and inexpensive (but clean) places to stay for a week. I will be driving fron Calais. Thanks
Would "Centre" be the right place for the Loire Castles? I want to get my Loire Castle Page away from "Tours" Christine
