Group to Canyon De Chelly  (4 Answers)

I am thinking of bringing a group of 27 people on a day trip from our mission trip (new Mexico) in a few weeks ranging from 6th grade - mid 50's. Would you recommend seeing the pullouts from the two rims and doing the one hike? How strenuous is the hike? Or would you recommend finding a guide to take us around?

Best outline for a driving trip solo to the Navajo Nation area  (6 Answers)

Hi fellow travelers,

I've had recurring thoughts about the Canyon de Chelly, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion/Bryce NP areas and think a nice road trip is in my near future. I'm from Colorado and have traveled extensively in the west, but never really explored these regions. Would anyone please share ideas for incorporating these area/regions in a great 2-3 week road trip for the end of October-November timeframe? Links, websites, leads greatly appreciated.
I have a tent (but camping solo as a woman?) but also can stay in cheap clean hotels/B&Bs/homestays, etc. I just want a meaningful (not totally touristy) experience. Are there gifts that I might bring to the Navajo Nation that are needed? Books, clothes, ideas?

I teach English and writing and do some artwork - so sharing my skills might be a good volunteer experience to offer the tribe, too. I've volunteered worldwide through and find that when I travel I enjoy most meeting locals, sharing my skills and talents, having a more intense and personal experience. I speak some Spanish, love taking great photos, enjoying regional cultural events/festivals and telling/hearing good stories.

I'd be driving from northern CA, have family in Las Vegas and Phoenix/Tucson but may not make it that far south.
Thanks for any time, thought and effort offered by you, my fellow world travelers!

Overnight trips into the canyon...  (5 Answers)

Does anyone have first-hand experience (good or bad) with any of the outfitters offering overnight trips in Canyon de Chelly? I will be there in early October 2012, and an overnight in the canyon is something I'm starting to look into. Thanks!

Which is the best mode of transportation from Chinle to Grand Canyon?
Is it advisable to rent a car from Chinle?
We would like to visit the Grand Canyon and ending at Las Vegas?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Rim overlook drives  (2 Answers)

I'll be visiting the park this upcoming March and I want to do both the north and south rim drives. On my map of Arizona it looks like highway 7 runs along the south rim to Chinle and then highway 64 runs along the north rim from Chinle to Tsaile. Are these the rim overlook drives or do you first have to enter the park at chinle to to access the drives?

Horseback Riding  (2 Answers)

I would like to go to the beautiful Canyon de Chelly again. This time I would like to ride into it on a horse. Has anyone done that before? Does anyone know web sites with infos about 'Horseback Riding in the Canyon de Chelly'?
