can sum body tel me more about canouan?
There is a Vincentian Built Chat Site Called CariChat: http://www.CariChat.net - Locals Are usually on that site. Try Asking them questions about Saint Vincent. I'm sure that they will be happy to tell you about the island - as well as the Grenadines: Canouan, Bequia, Union Island, Mustique....
Small island accessible by air from Barbados or twice weekly ferry from St. Vincent. One gawdawful deluxe resort Donald Trump hotel (Raffles chain) re-opening in December 2004 (allegedly) after being closed for 2-3 years. One smaller resort (Tamarind Bay) originally built to accommodate the construction team for the place that is now Raffles. It does not get good reviews. One French-owned hotel, Canouan Beach Hotel, which gets rave or dud reviews (Europeans love it so you can guess who doesn't!). One little back of the beach set of A frame guesthouses run by a Mrs. De Roche from St. Vincent. A couple of other little guesthouses and independent restaurants. Population what - 750 ?? Within easy daysail of the Tobago Cays. What else do you want to know ?
The guy above is so wrong - just typical of people not living here talkin about it. Raffles is open and has been since November, expensive and luxury, only the casino and golf course are Trump although he is building some private villas there too. Tamarind is a busy yachting hub hotel, good food and bars and really popular. Canouan Beach hotel no longer exists and the site is used to house workers for Raffles. the island is great and only spoilt by people not knowing what theyre on about as author before!!
Oh spare me...the raffles/trump place opened Nov 20 which is pretty damn close to the December date forecast in my email of early September. Frostyone strikes me as an apologist for the megacorp interests that have quite spoilt the island (and embittered the locals), as is clear to anyone who remembers it from 10-20 years ago. Sad to hear about the Canouan Beach Hotel closing - another victim of the megacorp.
