I will be traveling from Dover, England on the Ferry and then catching a train to Paris. I believe Paris de Nord is the closest station to my hotel. I am a little confused about getting the train once we get off the ferry in Calais. Can anyone tell me if the train station is within walking distance from the ferry port? If not...is there buses or taxi's at the port? I would like to take the fast train, I believe that is the Eurostar? Thank you for any help.
There is a shuttle bus once you get off the ferry, the bus runs to Calais-Ville central railway station.
Have you considered taking the Eurostar straight to Paris from London St Pancras?
Its really quick (about 2.5 hours) and cheap if booked ahead
"the train station is within walking distance from the ferry port..."
You are not permitted to walk to or from the ferry boat either at Dover or Calais. All foot passengers must take the bus at least to the passenger terminal outside.
The bus in Calais then goes to Calais Ville station, from where there are French TGV trains to Paris Nord. These take the same route as the Eurostar trains from Calais Frethun, so there may be no advantage in going especially to Calais Frethun. Check times for both stations at [original link] or elsewhere as suggested, to see which is the most convenient. Short trains run from Calais Ville to Frethun to connect with other TGV trains that only stop there.
(If the OP is starting the trip from Dover or somewhere else in East Kent, Eurostar from London is hardly an option!)
1. Your ferry arrives and you disembark. A free transfer bus shuttles passengers from the quayside to the ferry terminal building.
2. A bus service operates every hour or two from a bus stop immediately outside the ferry terminal building to central Calais & Calais Ville station, the fare is €2. However, Sod's Law says you will just miss one, it isn't very frequent and really doesn't connect well with sailings. I have walked from the ferry terminal to Calais Ville station, it is 2.7km and takes 35 minutes. The route is signed well, up the metal walkway right outside the ferry terminal building and to your right.
3. TER trains run regularly from Calais Ville to Boulogne from where less frequent Intercites run to Paris Nord. Or TER trains run to Calais Frethun, from where irregular TGVs run to Paris Nord. Or there may be some possible journeys via Lille. It's a bit of a hotch-potch. So before blindly setting off, use [original link] to check train times from Calais Ville to Paris and Calais Frethun to Paris.
4. Note that you can get cheap fares Calais-Paris from €15 if you pre-book (but miss the train and your ticket is worthless), full-price Calais to Paris via Boulogne is more like €42.50 if bought on the day at the station.
Thank you everyone. I do want to take the ferry from Dover not a train. I guess I would need to get to Calais Frethun, because that is the fastest train as far as I can tell. Is it possible to get a taxi from the ferry port to the train station at Calais Frethun?
Be careful because I didn't see any taxi outside the port of Calais, I took the ferry to Dover and return on the same day 2 months ago. The only transfer you've find outside is the shuttle. Is only radio taxi available, means, you have to call
You can also go with the shuttle and get off at Calais-Ville and from there take a taxi to Calais Frethun
