We will be overnight in Buenos Aires and only have one day available to go to Iguazu Falls
Argentina side. So we can take the flight from AEP to IGR at 5:40 AM that gets in at 7:25 or the one that depart Buenos Aires at 9:05 and gets in at 11 AM. My concern is that the later flight we lose 2 hrs of precious sightseeing time since the park opens at 9AM...but then if we take the earlier flight we have to be at the airport at what time????? in order to make the flight. In that case we may lose sleep time. To me the sightseeing is more precious than sleep as we will not have the opportunity to every go again...BUT on the otherhad if we need to be there hours before then loss of sleep can make us too tired to enjoy what we are seeing. Your recommendations will be most helpful!
have you checked what time the park closes? that could factor in......
sorry I meant to type more, (I saw both sides so I can't remember), I think on the argentina side, you walk thru the falls, you get very close to them. But you don't have the boat ride like on the brazil side--which was awesome, but did take time. I don't remember the argentina side having any additional things, aside from walking thru of course.
sorry, things keep coming to me--I can't remember if the airport is technically in brazil?? not sure if its time of year specific, but brazil was an hour ahead when I was there--just keep in mind when going to get your plane.
Dear Monicaro Thank you for your replies, but I still do not have a clue what to do. The park closes at 5PM or 6PM (I was told...so lets assume 5PM) I would love to see the Brazillian side BUT I can't because that involves getting a Brazillian Visa and for one day that is not practical. It is very difficult to get and expensive (mostly difficult) and that is why we chose to do only the Argentina side. IGR airport is in Argentina. There is a different airport in Brazil. My problem is that I do not know how long it takes to do the security and such at the airport and what the guidelines are for how much before the flight that you must be there. From everything I have read, you need an hour plus because once you get to the gate then they shuttle you to the field where the plane is...so this all has me worries that we might need to be at the airport at 3AM which means absolutely no sleep. so that is why none of the answers have pointed me to the necessary decision. I am still looking for more answers. Thanks
The park closes at 6pm, and the last train from Garganta station is at 5:30pm. The amazing close up views of the gigantic falls can be found at Garganta del Diablo or Devils Throt by taking the slow park train from Cataratas Station near the entrance. The train ride is about 20 minutes. The frequency about half hour. Near Cataratas station you can walk the upper circuit or trail to see Dos Hermanas, Chico and Bosetti Falls and a panoramic view of falls around San Martin. You can also take do the Gran Adventure that include the boat ride right under the falls and an eco tour on an inflatable boat which I did. So I reckon you will need at least half a day to see all this. Can't comment about your flight or airport as we took the long overnight trip by bus from BA to Puerto Iguazu. But we were not pressed for time. I only did the Argentina side. And I spent almost two days at the Argentina side alone taking my own sweet time to admire the falls and walking around the circuit and hopping in and out of the train. I suggest you go in as early as possible if you only have a day.
Hi [VT member 19b3b2]! For domestic flights from AEP you usually need to be there an hour in advance. Check with the airline though if they have any different policy.
Have a nice trip!
FYI if you do the boat ride you getting sopping wet--just to keep in mind, maybe do it towards the end of the day, unless you don't mind walking around covered in water!
Good to know...I am not sure if we wil have the time, but it sounds like fun. If we do it towards the end, then we will have time to change clothes afterward (if the weather is not too cold) but we will take rain ponchos just in case. Thanks for the warning!
Not sure where to write this:
Thank you to everyone for contributing. I booked the 5:40 Am flight out of AEP to arrive in IGR at 7:25 AM and that means we will have the maximum possible time at the falls since the park doesn't open until 9AM. I hope we will be able to see it fully, and perhaps take the boat ride if we can from the Argentina side....It will be a once in a lifetime experience and that is why we added it to the itinerary even though we only had one day before our cruise. I dowbt we will ever be back that way again and it seemed sad to not make the sidetrip for the day when we would be so close. Thank you all again for your recommendations. I of course am open to any firther suggestions you may have for the trip...I just wanted you all to know the airfare is booked and the times are locked in! Mucho Gracias
