I have attended Sziget for a few years and next year I am taking my 15 year old. We will be staying in/exploring Budapest for 5 days afterwards. As I've been before I know some great places to take him during the day, however I am looking for suggestions on what we can do at night.
Also, has anyone tried parapark? We are travelling with my boyfriend and possibly another adult friend.

I will be in Budapest for only one day, 10/3 following a cycling tour. I will see as much as I can during the day, and am thinking about a concert in the evening. This venue is the only one I could find on a Sunday night. Has anybody been to a concert here? I found a website that had tickets for 44-48 E and am wondering if that is a standard price, or an inflated internet price. From experience, do you think I could just obtain a ticket that day? I was in Venice for 2 days after a cycling trip, and had a wonderful experience at a baroque classical concert, and think this might be another nice event. It is not a must do, so perhaps I should just wait until I'm there and make a decision. Thanks for any other suggestions, as well.
I will have the opportunity to spend a week or so in Budapest several times a year. I will be back sometime between christmas and the end of the first week of January 2011. I thought this time it would be nice to take a side trip someplace. At best i will have 2 nights and three days so it needs to be direct close and focused. I thought maybe Kiev. I dont mind the cold if there is somehting to see and do. My requirements are non-stop out of budapest and no more than a 2 hour flight. I've been to most of Romania, most of Bulgaria, most of the Czech Republic and parts of Austria. I would prefer something "different" with a fiar or event or ...... Kiev? Other suggestions???
Hi - One online source - they dont seem to have their own website - says that only on Tuesdays are the steam baths open for women. Is this correct and up to date? If I go, I want the full experience, especially since I am going for healing purposes. I had the bad luck of finding the hot thermal pools, the most important part of the treatment for me, closed at the Lukacs because of the flooding. Does anyone know if they are functioning again? I can't call, I don't speak Hungarian. I have also been to the Kiraly which was quite healing but it is rather dirty and rundown, and only open for women two days of the week. Any suggestions are welcome; Budapest is quite hot now but nevertheless my body needs the deep heat of pools and steams. Thanks! Jean
Following a suggestion to go to Pomaz for fruit picking in my earlier thread, I am looking at what else we can do in Pomaz. I see there is a Greek Orthodox Serbian church - I think this would be interesting to visit, can we visit or is it only open for services on Sundays? (I hear churches in villages are open less than those in the city?).
What other recommendations do you have?
ANy suggestions for hotels near tourist attractions, restaurants, areas to stroll around? Our favorite thing to do in europe is just to stroll around, especially at night, so we always make sure our hotel is well situated-- don't want to be taking subways just to get to our hotel. Thanks.
We will be staying at The Sofitel Chain Bridge Hotel for three nights in October.
Does anyone know of jazz or blue clubs near this location??Thanks...Stan
I haven't been using VT for a long time so I needed to register again. I'm heading to Budapest in about a month and would like to get your opinion of 2 apartments I consider to rent out. I have been renting apartments before in Rome/Prague and also in Paris, so I'm familiar how it works.
For me it is a bit hard to locate the real "center" of Budapest... Is it next to the river or more the Oktogon area?
I'm gonna rent either the King's Court or the Franciscan Palace from the Budapesting, just don't know which one to choose:
The Franciscan Palace is next to the river near Vaci utca ( ). It seems pretty central, but I heard Vaci utca is not as nice anymore as it used to be and that area is overpriced and overrun by tourists...
The other option would be the King's Court ( ), which is half way between the river and the city park and it's very close to Oktogon and List Franz Square, which I heard is a nice area to hang out in the evenings.
Please let me know which one do you think would suit better 2 friends (mid 40's) visiting Budapest in the middle of July!
Can someone give me some simple instructions about traveling by train from Budapest to Kosice and back? My wife and I are 60 years old and she cannot walk at a fast pace (severe rheum.arthritis). I cannot seem to obtain the departure times . We plan on departing for Kosice on a Saturday. Can someone tell me the number of trains going from Budapest to Kosice daily. How soon should we arrive at the train station to secure the tickets? We are going to be on a strict timetable and would like to get the train we want without delays. Also is there a discount on roundtrip tickets and for seniors?
Any help would be great.
Am I correct in assuming that by traveling internationally (Hungary to Slovakia) we cannot purchase the tickets ahead of time.

I have 2 questions:
(1) Can public phones in Budapest *receive* calls?
(2) What is the minimum (cheapest) local calling card available for public phones and where does one buy them? If you know of a web site (in English) with all the information, I'd appreciate receiving the URL.
I thank you all very much.

hi ! can someone tell us where are the safest areas to visit at night in Pest,
as we read in the Independent newspaper today, that Budapest is a favourite of British stag party weekends who get pissed and cause trouble, and we dont want to get mixed up with these crowds. Also is it necessary (or desirable) to carry a passport at all times for identification, if asked. Is there any more risk of theft etc than in London?
Finally, we would like to visit Godollo Castle (former home of Empress Sissi).is there an organised tour there most days, and has anyone visited the place
I want to travel between Budapest, Prague, Vienna and Salzburg using European East Pass. I need to know the travel time (duration in hours) between differnt cities and best route to cover all starting and ending at Budapest. Should I split the tour into two parts depending upon travellingtime and dimension for covering all the four cities.
Where to buy the European East Pass in Budapest?
I've been to Bp many times and have never got around to asking here until now about that small collection of old airliners which is sitting in a field close to Terminal 2. Is it possible to visit those planes? I've only ever seen them from the airport bus but i'd be interested in getting a closer look at them.
Is it possible to visit them?
Any ideas anyone? :)
I've seen online that the hydrofoil only starts running in late April - is there any boat service between Budapest and Bratislava/Vienna that begins earlier? I'll be in Budapest from April 5.
