Dinan or Caen?  (4 Answers)

Hi all, I'll be visiting MSM from Paris. We'll be making a stop at Rennes as well and have time for either Dinan or Caen. Ignoring other factors, and just caring about the two cities, which has more to offer in terms of sightseeing and food?

Thank you!

I will be spending only four days in Brittany.  (22 Answers)

Hello all! I will be spending approximately 4.5 days in the Brittany area. Since Rennes is centrally located, should I make this my base?

Interests:Old cities, interesting towns, craggy coastlines...and oh yes, food.:)

I'm looking for areas that have "Breizh" written all over it...so-to-speak.;)

  • All travel done by public transportation*

Thanks!

Henry

First of all Thank you so much for your amazing travel tips!!
In 20 days I'll rent a car here in Italy and i'll drive to London via Bretagne and Normandie. Do you think 5 days ( once arrived in Bretagne ) will be enough to see the best places? What's your fav one? Are roads busy or easy and quite to drive? Thank you :)

Oh... were to go in Brittany???  (9 Answers)

Hi All,
I have never been to France, a friend is recommending Brittany for our first time. We intend on using the ferry to cross from Dover to Calais, we will be driving.
I have spent around 6 hours this week trying to work out a rout that will show us some interesting sights/places/towns/beaches, but oh my words! I am more confused than when I started, can anyone recommend a rout or a book that has routs in France to follow.
Thank you so much for your help

Destination recommendations fror Brittany  (11 Answers)

My wife & I are traveling in Brittany in late May. Starting in Rennes (after train from Paris), driving west for a week, ending in Nantes, then taking the train to Paris to spend several days there. Planning to have a few days in Renne, then on to St.-Malo, Dinan with an open-ended driving itinerary through towns like Lamballe, Quingamp, Abbaye de Beauport, Paimpol, Treguier, Cairn, St-Pol-de-Lean, Roscoff, Quimper, Auray, Carnac & Vannes. Looking for Breton culture and cuisine. Any recommendations to strike off this list of list or add to it? Any places to merit special attention?

I'm planning a trip to Bretagne in close future, and considering this will be my first time there I would like if some of you could give me a few tips for places to visit, and things to do there. I love history so some historical places would be great.
Brest or Rennes, or maybe some other city? If you have some tips i would be greatful :)

Ideas for a week long trip from London to Bretagne?  (11 Answers)

Hi
Due to family circumstances, we find ourselves unexpectedly travelling to Europe in mid June for three weeks.
We have a whole lot of family stuff to do in Germany and will then move on to London for a few days for a golden wedding anniversary. After what would be a fairly hectic schedule, we would then like to take a week to relax and leisurely explore somewhere we haven't yet travelled to. We are a family of four (including kids aged 8 and 5) and will be travelling with two 70-something parents. We are interested in spending some time on the beach/coast but also love exploring in an unhurried manner.
We are currently toying with the idea of Bretagne (Brittany) and would appreciate it if someone could give us some guidance on the following:
1. Due to time constraints, we would like to fly in direct from London (any airport, though Stansted or Luton are preferable) if possible. I believe that flybe services the London - Rennes route: does anyone have any experience of this route/carrier (both new to us), and are there any practical alternatives?
2. We are happy to hire a vehicle, but would like to rent a self catering cottage/house and base ourselves in one place. Any suggestions (preferably close to the coast) for a good location?
3. Any other useful feedback?
Regards
Cathy

London to Bretagne?  (5 Answers)

OK, got all excited by reading VT answers to my last question. Then I called AA, where I had acquired 60,000 miles, allowing me to travel to Europe anytime I want. Sadly, there were no seats to Paris during my time frame! They had plenty to London, though. Would it be prohibitively expensive to get from London to Bretagne, thus negating my airline savings (my husband will have to pay for his ticket)?

Best Base for Brittany in September?  (9 Answers)

We were all set to go to Cornwall, but the other couple finked out and my husband won't drive on the left side anymore (I will, but don't want to get stuck with ALL the driving.). So...........we've decided to go to Brittany! We do prefer to rent an apartment/house/cottage, so any suggestions on a good place to aim for? From all I've read, St. Malo is beautiful but very crowded--where else might be beautiful but perhaps a shade less crowded in September? We're shooting for the 11th and to stay about 3 weeks.

Sailing in Brittany  (2 Answers)

Im' trying to find a sailing festival or similar in North Brittany. Needs to be somewhere between St Malo and say Morlaix.
Duration about one week in the summer.
Had hoped that the 2011 festival in the Bay of Morlaix might be repeated but I see it's in Brest in 2012 and that is to far for my old boat..
Any Ideas welcomed.

Family trip for 3 weeks around North Brittany Coast  (1 Answer)

Hi,

Was wondering if i could have some of your valuable wisdom, we are a small family with a little boy of 6 months and we are planning our first family holiday away. We obviously don't have huge amounts of spare cash, so where thinking of staying in static caravans or small hotels to keep the costs down. My husband flies in the Brest and we aim to follow the coast as much as we can around the north coast line.

Can you recommend places that are must haves, or must stays and where to get the best information which would be a great help.

Thanks in advance
Bryony, Phil and Theodore

Asterix and Obelix fan!

Hello, everybody! I am a big, big fan of Asterix and Obelix comix and this is the main reason that I want so much to visit Bretagne. Would you propose to me an itinerary to get the "feeling" of the rebellious galatians? Also, which is the best season to visit Bretagne? Thank you!

good base  (11 Answers)

Hello we are travelling to the Bretagne area after spending 3 nights in Bayeux.
My question is with regard to sightseeing in the region where would be the most convenient place to stay? St Malo and Mont Saint Michel are both priorities and we are looking at about 3-4 days in the area.
Any suggestions are graetly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

travel time  (6 Answers)

hello we are planning to drive from Paris to the Normandy region. we wish to visit the D-Day beaches & museums, Rouen, Caen,Mont St Michel, St Malo and travel to the Brittany region taking in the Rose granite coast area, Rennes & markets also.
We plan to book 2 nights in each region with a few days free in between. That way we can pace ourselves, staying longer or somewhere else on the way if we need extra time.
We don't want to miss the charm of the area but are travelling on a budget so any suggestions on roughly how long we will need to see these areas properly.
We are continuing on to Limogues,Bordeaux, Dordogne,Pyrenees, Carcossonne and the Provence & Monaco region before driving up to Luxembourg.
We are looking at three and a half weeks in total, and plan to revisit the area sometime in the future.
Does this amount of time seem doable?? thanks for all suggestions. A&K

Concarneau

Going to Brittany tomorrow and, although I know there will be super places to eat, if anyone has a really good recommendation for Concarneau (we are staying at Plougastel St Germain) or any other port on that coast, it will be much appreciated. Mad about seafood!

Best beaches for a short break in Bretagne  (3 Answers)

During my French trip want to plan a 4 day break in Bretagne. (Looked some tourist websites already: Saint Lunaire, Binic, Paimpol, Peros Guirec...? and i am confused). Perhaps some tips where to relax and swimm at scenic beach. I prefer Nature not overcrowded places.
