Visiting the Black Forest in March 2017  (5 Answers)

My wife and I are planning to tour the Black Forest area in March 2017.
We were wondering if we may encounter any problems with bad weather at this time of year?
We know that there may be snow. which is as far as i am concerned will be a bonus? (Will be travelling in a 4x4.)
But will the normal tourist sites be open at this time of year?
We are thinking of basing ourselves in the lake Titisee area, can anyone give us some tips on any must see things or thing we should do.
Thanks in advance.

Help with Black Forest itinerary please !  (7 Answers)

Me and my husband with our two children 15 and 13 years old are heading to Black Forest area on 25th of October. We will arrive at Frankfurt airport from Berlin (by train) to receive our rented car then to our pre-booked farm house in a village near Linden (some where in the east of the forest).
We will stay 5 nights and this is our primary itinerary. I need your expert suggestions of any modifications. We don't plan to hiking or dining but only to getting around to picturesque places, beautiful nature, culture and history. We also able to go to a lot of places in one day and love walking and not get tired quickly.

25 October Frankfurt airport (13:30 pm) to the farmhouse in Tennenbronn Schramberg (3 hours drive) then walking in the area around the house in the forest.

26 October driving in the early morning to Triberger falls then to Titisee lake then to Todtnau falls and the roller coaster and may be the cable cars.

27 October driving in the early morning to Colmar (France) then to Strasburg.

28 October driving to Europpark (for my kids).

29 October, I am not decided yet to drive to Interlaken in Switzerland (3 hours drive) because I had been there before and my kids are not, they would love to see the high range mountains of the Alps. We can start the journey at 6 am arrive at 9 am then leave at 4 or 5 pm (sunset in this area is around 5pm)
Or to go to Baden-Baden but if it is similar to Strasburg or Colmar they will be enough.

I heard also of the open air museum I don't know where is it and on which day can be done. I would like also to see the coco clock making and may be a castle or something.

I would appreciate all your comments and thanks in advance, I always relied on your suggestions in all my previous trips.

Place to stay & weather in black forest  (5 Answers)

Hi all, We're looking into travelling to the Black Forest region in the first week of November. Firstly, what is the weather like at that time? Is it very likely to snow? As we are considering renting a car as we have a 4yr old and 2 yr old. We are not used to driving in snow so don't want it to be dangerous.

Secondly, where would be a good place to stay as a base. We will be flying to Baden-Baden and definitely visiting Europa Park. Would one day be enough for this park? Would it be mid-term holidays at that time there? Other places are still a question mark (suggestions for good places for kids welcome!). The Triborg waterfalls seem nice too.

I've seen some chalets/farms which seem nice to stay but not sure if they would be too far out. We prefer a self-catering place rather than hotel because of the kids. Animals on a farm would definitely go down well with them!! Many have also mentioned Freiburg as a good base.

Thanks in advance!!

sights on route  (2 Answers)

Hallo. Pls can you tell me if we follow the 60km of the Schwarzhochstrasse driving from Ottenhofen to Baden Baden without actually visiting the cities on our way, since they are not the ones we are interested in, will we still be able to see from above some sights eg.Mummelsee? I mean, does the route itself give a chance of sightseeing or does someone have to go near the cities? You see, we just want to have a panoramic view of the forest. Thank you.

Black Forest in August  (7 Answers)

Hi all
myself and 16 others (ages from 3 to 84) will be staying just outside Simonswald for 9 nights in August. We have most day trips planned, but what i wanted to know was the following
Are there any public outdoor pools of lakes for swimming near Simonswald?
Is there enough to do in Triberg for a whole day out?
How busy would the Europa Park be on a Monday in August?
Is there much to do/see in Freiburg for a morning?

On one day we are planning on a trip to Stuttgart and parking just off the main shopping street and close to the train station. Some will go and look around the town, while others wish to visit the Mercedes and Porsche museums.
what is there around the main town to see and how easy is it to get to the car museums and which is the best to visit, giving we would like to meet back with the others before we go for a meal.

Other trips we have planned are to Switzerland and Liechtenstein for the day, we are planning on doing this on Liechtensteins national holiday, so we can see the festivities, has anyone been and is it worth it for a day out.

The other trip idea was a trip to Lake Como, but the small towns up the left hand side, has anyone been and whats worth a visit?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Black forest by public transit  (2 Answers)

Hi! I'm visiting the Black Forest/ Baden Baden the second week of March. I plan to stay 2 to 1/2 days. I definitely want to soak in some streams and see some picturesque towns/places, cuckoo clocks and such. I don't plan on doing much hiking because of the time of year and because I'm nursing a small injury, but I'm open to the possibility if it's worth it. I will be traveling using public transit. Any suggested itineraries would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

Special attractions beyond the gorgeous views  (4 Answers)

My husband and I are planning to travel (kid free) and spend three full days in Black Forest mid-October this year. As nature lovers, there is no lack of what to see or where to hike, and we will definately visit a spa. However, we wonder if there is something extra special or differrent to see in this region that is one of those "must-see" moments before having to head back home.

Thank you :)

How does one get to Feldsee from Breisach ?
I hear there is a walking path to the lake that goes downand then-ofcourse up again to the cable car station .Is it a long difficult walk ? How long will it take ?
Are there other lakes in the area( as nice as this one ) that can be reached without the need to walk ? The big lakes are not as attractive to me :-) Thnaks !

Plan a trip in the Black Forst for 7 days  (7 Answers)

Hi all,

We are coming to the black forest at the end of August for 7 days!
We are arriving to Munich at about 5PM, renting a car, and 7 days (6 nights) later flying back from Munich at around 7PM.
We are interested in nature, simple short hikes (my parents are in their mid 50's, and I am in my late 20's), waterfalls, lakes, small cute towns, beautiful churches etc.
We are not interested in museums, walking in castles etc. We can see the castle from the outside, but the inside is really not our thing, unless it is a "must see".
I do love animals, so if there is a good zoo around, or an animal attraction - I am all for it.
We are also considering Europa Park.

I would really appreciate any points of what we must see, recommendations on where to stay or anything else you want to tell me!

Thanks much!
