May I please know what is the best way to travel from Bayeux to Dinard or St.Malo using public transport?
You can take the train Bayeux> St Malo.
will give you train times, details and fares in French (it's easy to work out) or you can choose the English language version (which will take you to Raileurope, a ticketing agency). The French language version gives the fare you will pay at the station.
I cannot find a direct bus option, but check back later for suggestions from other VT-ers.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply which is what I needed.
Leics is right for the trains, but have a look at the timetables as some trains from Bayeux will try to take you through Paris, and that'll make it a 600 km trip. You will have to change in Dol de Bretagne for the St Malo line. Dinard no longer has a train station but you can get a bus just outside the station that will take you into Dinard.
Thank you [VT member 9aa2f] and gwened for your invaluable detailed train tips.Imagine booking the train that took us via Paris as changing trains would have been a nightmare!
We have been and are still spending hours and days planning our itinerary.
Your help has been a big relief for us.
By the way we are going in September.Do you see the need to book and buy online the train tickets i.e.Bayeux to St.Malo or should we wait till we get to Bayeux where we intend to stay for 3 nights?
I see absolutely no need to book or buy online. I'd just go to the station a day or so before travel and buy the tickets then.
No, no real need except that you might find tickets a little cheaper if you buy beforehand. You can only do this 90 days before your date of travel.
The three daily trains between Bayeux and St Malo via Dol de Bretagne are regional trains, so there is nothing to be gained by buying tickets in advance. The fare of €28,20 will be the same whether you buy in advance or on the day.
Three trains a day. That's it. Currently 0731, 1430 and 1746. Check timetables as they change from 9th December.
Thank you very much for your wonderful information.
Have a good Christmas to all who took the trouble to respond.
