Hello and welcome to VT.
There are several companies which offer "day tours" around Bangkok but personally, Bangkok is quite easy (and inexpensive) to see on one's own.
Most of the major tourist sites such as Wats, Grand Palace, etc. are very near to one another and easy to reach using public transportation, taxi or better yet, water taxi.
Once there, simply walk up to front entrance of the Grand Palace IGNORING ALL THE TOUTS TRYING TO TELL YOU PALACE IS CLOSED FOR A SPECIAL OR RELIGIOUS CEREMONY - either carry a guide book or hire a guide at the door.
From there, with a map you can walk just a short distance away to other nearby attractions.
If you dedicate one day or evening to the shopping area of the MBK mall, likewise you will be within short distances or access via the MTR to all the great shopping Bangkok has to offer.
That is my recommendation.
Please look at my Bangkok pages for the details of the driver I have used several times for the last 4 years. Mr Tom now has a brand new mini-bus that can easily carry 4 people in comfort. He will do a tour to suit you and speaks good English. He is also a careful driver. Please mention "Mr John from England" if you do use him, thank you.
Many of the things tourists do in Bangkok can be done on your own - like shopping, restaurants and even nightlife. With enough time local travel agencies in Bangkok book tours for you but usually buy today and leave the next morning from your hotel. Sometimes leave the same evening. Your hotel may also book tours for you too. I would check with your hotel first.
Here is a couple private tour guides who show up on other travel forums from time to time over the years. They are not cheap. Tong Tours and Rat tours. Tong is the more well known company but they take their time getting back to you sometimes.
Most of the tours from local Bangkok travel agencies are shared van tours together with 8 or 9 other tourists. Not that expensive compared to similar type tours in Europe. Good for out of the city type tours. Maybe you can check things out for your next time in Bangkok.
