Beside, any one could let me know the total cost of the transportation from Vienna to Hallstatt, Hallstatt to Salzburg, Vienna to Salzburg. I have checked the website of DB Bhan (which doesnt show the price) and OBB (which shown abt 45 euro).
We've been to Salzburg quite a lot over the past years.
The entire odl town is listed as an Unesco World Heritage site !
Absolutely worth to visit :
* Fortress of Hohensalzburg
* Mozart Wohnhaus (his residence)
* Mozart Geburtshaus (his birthplace - in the Getreidegasse nr. 9)
* the Salzbueger Dom
* the Mirabel gardens & palace
* the Residenzgalerie (the residence of the former Prince-Archbishop)
* a lot of tour companies offer a wide range of guided tours in and around the city. One of the most polupar tous is the "Sound of music tour", which takes you to all of the sight featured in the famous movie. Of course they also offer the classic tours along the most famous sights of the city.
You see, enough attractions to choose from to fill your day in Salzburg !
Have fun !
Here is a link to Eurail train scheduals that will give you times and prices. There are links on the page that will get you to the stations that you require.
I did not research it but an incountry pass may be the best cost for you.
I should have said in the last post, Vienna is actually called and listed as Wien on the European maps and scheduals.
I get to know that EINFACH-RAUS-TICKET is for group of 2-5. If i travel alone can i still buy this ticket?
The eurail train schedule that you mean is it OBB?
Yes, that is Right, I think the link is towards the bottom right side of the page.
Have you tried the link: (www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp) ? You can use the trip planner on that site. I took a brief look. The trip should take between 3 1/2 to 4 hours from Vienna to Hallstatt. The price I saw was something like 44 Euro for that segment of your trip. You could continue to work with the planner to get your times and costs for the Hallstatt to Salzburg, and Salzburg to Vienna portions of your trip. The Hallstatt tourism site: (www.hallstatt.net). Gary
There are Travel Guides for Vienna, Salzburg, and Hallstatt here on VT. One thing I forgot to mention is that if you arrive by train, you will still need to take a ferry across the lake to reach Hallstatt. Gary
Train and bus between Hallstatt and Salzburg costs less than 5 Euro last time I looked.
Thanks so much ...ya the price that i check from OBB is ard the price of 44euro and if not mistaken the ferry will cost ard 20euro, rite?
U mention that the bus or train from Salzburg to Hallstatt cost only 5 euro? could you let me know which bus or train you are taking? Is it OBB? If not where can i take the bus or train? It will take ard 2 hrs in between Hallstatt and salzburg rite?
By the way, since winter the daylight will be shorter, is it any problem to travel at nite for a female traveller (ie from hallstatt to salzburg) further i dont know German? Im a bit worry to travel during night time especially when im not familiar with the country..
The ferry shouldn't be nearly that costly. I need to re-check my link for the ferry. It wasn't working very well the other day. If you look in the Hallstatt travel pages, there may be some information on Hallstatt travel options there as well. Gary
You take the bus (OEBB Postbus GmbH) from Miriabell Schloss in the City Centre of Salzburg and change to a train (Regional Express) at Bad Ischl. Total price one way 2nd class 4.50 Euro. You can book online on the OEBB site but it probably is not necessary. Just buy the ticket when you get on the bus.
As for travelling alone at night from Hallstatt to Salzburg, I wouldn't imagine there would be too much danger but I would make the journey back as early as possible, it's never wise to be walking around by yourself late at night.
U mentioned to take the bus (OEBB Postbus GmbH) from Miriabell Schloss in the City Centre of Salzburg and change to a train (Regional Express) at Bad Ischl. I presume this is for the way from Salzburg to Halstatt, am i right?
If i would travel from Halstatt to Salzburg, can i take train from Halstatt to Bad Ischl then change bus to salzburg?
Yes, it's the same system only you get the train first, obviously.
