Our flight into Athens will arrive at 9:25am. We would like to book a connecting flight to Kefalonia which leaves at 11:25am. Is this feasible? We have heard that it takes a lot of time to get around the Athens airport and make connections and we don't know how much time to expect to clear customs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
You've heard wrong. Athens airport is not that large and it's very efficient. 2 hours is ample time as long as your arriving flight is on time. And if you're coming from another European international airport you will have already passed through passport control and customs so all you'll have to do is collect your bags and go upstairs to check in for your domestic flight. When you know which terminal gate you'll be using it will only take you about 10 minutes to get there to wait for the shuttle bus that will take you out to your plane. If you arrive late and find yourself jammed for time don't hesitate to "politely" cut to the front of the line at the domestic ticket counter. Just go to the first available ticket agent and explain your time crunch.
The minimum connecting time under IATA rules is 45 minutes in Athens.
Whether you're taking domestic/to domestic flight / or international/ to domestic flight.
With 2 hours in Athens, that's more than enough time for you to transfer from one terminal to another.
Hope this helps!

As long as your incoming flight is on time, and providing you are coming in from another European airport, then you will have loads of time. If you are coming in from outside of the EU/Europe, then you should have enough time. As the previous poster says, Athens airport is not that large. However, the security proceedings could take some time - we found they were very slow when we exited Athens just over a year ago. I am not sure if you would have to go through security after arrival in order to connect with your departing flight, or if you can go straight to the gate - in any case, this would only be feasible if your bags have been checked all the way through to Kefalonia. My gut feeling is that if you are coming in from outside of the EU/Europe, then the timing is probably tight and if there is a later flight to Kefalonia, then you would save some angst if you book on that.
