Arnhem to Cologne by train?

In early May, my wife and I will be staying in Arnhem. We need to visit Cologne for one day. We need to return to Arnhem later (evening) the same day. Our wish would be to leave Arnhem around 8:00AM and return around 8:00PM. We would appreciate any advice, suggestions, ideas, etc. How long is the trip to Cologne? Roughly how much would it cost (round trip)? Do we need to purchase tickets in advance? Are their any tips or things to be aware of? Thanks! - Ron

Take a look at for detailed scheduling and fare information that fits your itinerary.

Generally speaking, travel time via ICE is just over 90 minutes in each direction, cost EUR 40.20 one-way per person. If you take regional trains, it will take about 3 hours each way and the cost will be EUR 30.90 each way.
