Looking for a nice hotel in Ankara and places to go out in the evening

Hi folks, as I am going on a business trip to Ankara I need a nice hotel for one or two nights. Price is no problem, it can be expensive. Can anybody recommend something nice? And has anybody a suggestion of what to do in the evening? I am a woman alone, but would love to go out to places where people go in the evenings for having dinner or just a glass of wine?
Thank you so much! Silvia

Dear Silvia,

If the price is not a problem, you can stay in Ankara Sheraton, which has a central location and good comfort.

I have been to Ankara tens of times and went out a lot, although my last stay was long time ago. Kizilay/Sakarya area is quite cosy, cheap and have many student-labor class restaurants and bars. You can't find the atmosphere of Beyoglu, but they have many open-side pubs, cheaper than here. I remember Alesta, Nüans, Gölge was nice rock bars.

At Cinnah area I used to go Manhattan, which is a nice rock-jazz-blues club with live bands. They charge some enterance fee, but still cheaper than in Istanbul.

Try to see Anatolian Civilizations Museum: one of the richest museums in its class in the world.

I believe SirVictor from Ankara, a very active and helpful member, can help you much better than me.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Istanbul again.

Best wishes.

Servus Silvia, Schoene Gruesse aus Ankara. I must thank my friend Alper from Istanbul too.
Shereton is a 5 star hotel. It is not far from city centrum. But I advice Hotel Evkuran. It is just in the centrum called Kizilay. There is nothing interesting do do in Ankara. Your counterparts in business will not let you alone in Ankara. Therefore you will have a nice 2 full days with them. If you have time you can call me who is an old Wiener 434 14 14.
the price is for 2 person: 82.-US Dollars

The Sheraton is a class act. As far as going out there are tons of great restaurants in the area. I am not much one for night clubs. The Ankara Racquet or Tennis Club is a neat place but I believe it is members only. It is down by the mall. Kizilay There is a great park that few tourists get to see but I cannot remember its name. It is not that far from the Sheraton and I think. They serve tea in samovars and great appetizers. It is really cool and relaxing. I know it is an older park and in spite of being in the city it feels really secluded. It has a name like Papa Bagazi or something similar to that.

Shopping is great in Kizilay. You can also catch a cab or a bus if you don't mind taking a bus(or small van) to Armada Mall. Great shopping. I don't know if the summer sales will be in progress by the time you get there but if so you can get some pretty good bargains. In Kizilay visit the Togo shoe store or the Matras leather store.

Hello Silvia,
I stayed several times in Gordion Hotel in Ankara even organized a few seminars etc there. Actually I like that hotel, because it is not very big like and some cosy so I feel home which is important for me. It is very clean and the staff is very kind. It is not Sheraton but it is a lovely small hotel with good facilities. Besides it is very central and close to Gazi Osman Pasa where there are lots of trendy restaurants and bars etc.
Enjoy your time in Ankara,
