Could anybody tell me where (in which area) the bus terminals are located in Ankara and where I could buy bus tickets? I'm planning the trip to Syria via turkey, so I'll need to buy the bus ticket for Antakia (or Adana);
Also, does anybody know where the Syrian embassy in Ankara is? I have an address from internet: Abdullah Cevdet Sokak, No.7 But I'm not sure if that is the place. Anyway, if anybody knows the exact address here it would be great, and if not _ I'll find it after arriving in Ankara.
and another question, I might need to stay in Ankara one or two days, as Ankara-Antakia bus schedule may not fit in my own travel schedule :)... so, where can I find some preferably cheap and safe (I mean safe for female traveler) place to stay there? maybe in Ulus area?( _ is that the name of old part of the city?)
thanks in advance!
When I visited Ankara for a couple of days in June 2004 I stayed at Otel Pinar, which is just down the street from Kale, in Ulus. It felt as a safe place. They have rooms of different categories, with or without bath. I decided to pay more to get my own bathroom, a big bed and a TV. No breakfast is served at the hotel, but there is a cafe opposite serving typical Turkish hotel breakfast.
I paid 25 000 000 TL for my room.
A room without bath and TV would have been 14 000 000 TL.
Ankara otogar (bus station) is called ASTI or Terminal and it is huge. As you arrive you should ask for a service to the area you want to go to as many companies have free transport from ASTI. One of the boys working on the bus I arrived with walked with me to show me the right place for the service, as it was not next to where the bus arrived. The service then took me all the way to my hotel in Ulus.
Leaving Ankara I arrived to ASTI without having a ticket in advance. It can be a difficult choice where to turn as there are more then 100 ticket counters. I can’t remember that I saw any of the big bus companies having an office in Ulus.
To go to ASTI I took a dolmush from Ulus. It was not leaving from Ulus Meydani but from a small street somewhere nearby.
From Ankara you will probably find a bus all the way to Syria, but if they are not many you will not have a problem finding a bus to Antakya.
Have a nice trip!
I really dont know if I m too late already but if not ,i ll try to help.
First of all this is the adress of the embassy.Abdullahcevdet Sok. No:7 Çankaya/ ANKARA and the tel.number is 00903124409657
The bus terminal,named ASTI and you can easyly take the metro(subway)to the direction of ASTI , anyway this is the last station.When you get i there dont be suprised cause it is Huge,so try to find travel organizator company , which has buses too,named:KAMIL KOC then they will set you up to the bus.
And the otel question , well Ulus wouldnt be the best pleace to be safety,so well stay in Anit Park Hotel
