I am staying in Zaandam on Pieter Lieftinckweg street.
What is the best and cheapest way to go to Amsterdam center?
Is Zaandam on the Amsterdam public transportation zones?
I was thinking on gettin the Amsterdam Travel card but I think it does not covers Zaandam.
Are you staying at IBIS?
At 200 meters around the corner there is a bus stop for direct buses (even a night bus) to the Amsterdam Central Station.
Just look at Google maps:
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I am staying on Ibis Budget.
I am a little confused because Zaandam is out of Amsterdam transportation zone.
I was thinking in buying an Amsterdam Travel Ticket but I think I cannot use it to Zaandam.
What is your advice about transit passes?
A single bus trip is just over 2.50 Euro when using a so-cales OV-chipkaart. This is an electronic recharchable electronic ticket you can buy at the station for € 7,50 and can be used for all train- and other public transportation journeys within the Netherlands.
Depending on the number of trips you want to make it's an option to spend that € 7,50 and pay per traveled distance. Amsterdam is great to explore walking and you just have to do the calculation if the Amsterdam card is worth while for you.
The Amsterdam card is a bit tricky as it offers free entrance to a number of attractions outside Amsterdam, but transportation is not covered in those cases. Only transportation with GVB (the Amsterdam public transportation) bus, tram or metro is covered.
Not covered is: -Transport outside Amsterdam and all NS trains. -Transport wit trains and buses of the Connexxion, Arriva, EBS or RET companies.
You should use http://9292.nl/en# to plan your travel with public transport.
There also is an app if you have a smartphone, so you'll always have the best connection.
