In July I will travel to Alsace for 6 days / 7 nights.
I think it is best to base in Colmar and rent a car to visit the nearby villages and go to Strasbourg where I will take the return flight.
I would like to visit the Black Forest.
I appreciate suggestions to the following questions:
- How many days should I devote to Colmar Wine Route?
- Give time to go to Freiburg, Lake Titisee and Triberg in the Black Forest?
- The roads will be safe in the Black Forest? The distances are short, but travel times indicated on Google Maps are too long for short distances indicate.
- How many days should I stay in Strasbourg?
I am very grateful for your suggestions.
Thanks very much
We'll be in France in mid to late August. Will it be very hot, or is it generally cooler in the wine route areas?
Thanks very much.
My boyfriend and I will be travelling to Alsace region in the last week of November. We will be training from Paris to Strasbourg or Colmar, and work our way north or south. The places that we hope to visit are Strasbourg, Colmar, Villages (Eguisheim, Riquewihr, Kayersberg, Turckheim), Europa-Park and Frieburg. We have about 10 days, and will be renting a car from Strasbourg or Colmar (depending where we arrive from).
Our current itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Paris-Strasbourg (Arrive in noon)
Day 2: Strasbourg
Day 3: Strasbourg-Rust(Europa-park), arrive in the evening
Day 4: Europa-Park
Day 5: Rust-Frieburg (Arrive in noon)
Day 6: Freiburg-Kayersberg/Turckheim (Arrive in evening)
Day 7/8/9: Explore Egusheim, Colmar, Riquewihr
Day 10: Colmar-Paris
Will the above plan be ok?
Also, will Kayersberg or Turckheim make a better base from Day 6-10? We are looking for a place hat is less touristy, has several restaurans and a market/grocery store nearby so that we can cook, and with friendly neighbours of course!
Thank you very much!
Are there any traditional events in Alsace in March? I'm looking for something like Faschingsumzug.
I'll be visiting Colmar in August and was wondering where we can go (in or near Colmar) to buy very good Alsace wine for the best prices possible. We're staying in the center of Colmar so I have a feeling the prices will be quite high. We have a car so we can easily go around.
We generally like dry wines (red and white), any suggestions on good Alsace ones are also welcome.
Thanks in advance for your tips.
We are staying in Obrey ( just west of Colmar) in September for a week, and have a car. What are recommended sights and villages in the region. Does anyone have recommendations for restaurants in or near Obrey.
We will be driving from Karlsruhe to Colmar, and from there to Switzerland. So many of the small towns in the region seem very attractive, and I;m wondering if there's a particularly pretty route we could follow. I know there's a Wine Route, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thank you very much.
Where can I find interesting places on Sunday 10/06?
Where is the recommended restaurant with good prices?
My daughter 22 and I will be going to Alsace next April. We will travel from Paris. We will stay three nights.
What's the cheapest way to get there?
Tips on what to do are appreciated.
Is is true that it is best to stay at Colmar and from there sightsee the surroundings?
Thank you for your comments, they are highly appreciated.
We are looking for a nice place to stay around 70 Euros. Are there any bed and breakfast?
I'm offered a job in strasbourg for a few months and I'm looking for an appropriate house for me an my pets. By that I mean that it must have enough space for them to spend some time outdoors and in addition to be away from traffic. I understand that this is not possible in the center, but I'm willing to stay at 10-15 mins away from the center. Are there houses of this kind in the area and if so would a house like that be safe for a solo female?
We shall be travelling in Alsace, in mid-December, with a rental car and we would appreciate very much any information about where to park in Colmar and Strassbourg, in order to walk down to the city centers and the christmas markets. We need to park not too far away, since we 'll have little kids in our company, as well. Your help will be really valuable, thanks in advance.
Where are the best places to see, stay & eat along the wine route in Alsace. We like history and things to see.
My family will visit me in Germany, and we wanted to stay some weeks in France near-by. Hopefully near a lake so my 2 year old could take a swim.. and me of course.
My parents like country style living. Near a nice village would be great.
Any leads anyone? Any locals know a friend who rents? Anyone want to house-swap for a place in NZ for a few weeks?
Hope to hear from some of you soon.
All the best,
We are going to Paris with car in the end of April. First we will stop in Strasbourg. Which way is better to go to Paris from Strasbourg? Highways are probably very expensive. I'd prefer to go where is something to see on the way, that we can make a nice driving break.
Thanks for advice!
HI! My wife and I are taking our mothers to Alsalce for 2 nights Feb 24th to see the reigon (I know it's not enough time) :-)
Would you suggest we stay in Colmar or Strausbourg? We're interested in seeing some sights, but nothing in particular, just general tourism.
We would be grateful for any suggestion!
My friends and I are staying in Mulhouse (as base for Christmas markets) the week of Christmas. What are the local Alsacien traditions on Christmas Eve and Christmas day? We want to have a special holiday dinner, but would like recommendations on the best time and restaurant. We want to experience the local traditions. Thanks.
I am going to spend one night with my girlfriend in Strasbourg during our trip to Cannes (by car). Could you recommend me some nice hostels in Strasbourg or nearby in qood price and car parking for one night? I will arrive 21 June probably. What prices should I expect?
Thanks in advance and greetings from Poland:)
Hello, my girlfriend and I are from Brazil and we will participate in a congress in Strasbourg on late May. We will arrive in a Friday night in Strasbourg, so we have a free weekend before the congress to visit the region. Can you suggest some cities, villages to visit? Is it a good idea to rent a car? Or buy some tour package that leaves Strasbourg on a Friday night? Is there any travel agency that you can recommend? We must be back in Strasbourg on Sunday night.
Thanks in advance.
My wife and I are planning to visit Alsace for a week in May and would like to rent a property in a village or small town within easy walking distance of a shop or shops and ideally a bar, restaurant or cafe.
Most properties we have found on the web are in the countryside way from any facilities.
Can anyone suggest a suitable town or village or even point us towards a particular cottage ?
Hello, we will travel from Strasbourg to Lyon by car. We are going to make some break on the way so could you tell us, where is the best poin to stop to see around?
Anyone know if the national road Strasbourg-Lyon is in good condition to drive on?
thanks in advance
I need to take the TGV to Strasbourg the same day I arrive at CDG. Do I have to go into Paris Gare de l'Est first? If so , what is the best way to get from CDG to Gare de l'Est?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
I am planning a trip at Christmastime to the Strasbourg area. I want to do a few day trips to Riquewihr and Ribeauville and I have heard that the train station is too far from the town to walk in Riquewihr. How do I get to the town from the station? Do they have taxi's or buses? Same question for Ribeauville.
I would like to visit friends in Alsace, but I'm not sure where I should fly into. Is there anything closer than Paris?
I've been to Strasbourg, Colmar, Selestat and Obernai. I'm taking a date across the Rhein (I like in Freiburg, DE) for a night or two. Here's what I'm looking for:
1)Convenience by bus or train from Colmar Gare or Bus Station
2)availability of a simple but nice enough B&B (without the second B when cheaper) for under 50euros
3)a charming village, perhaps one that has another 2-3 kilometers away that we could walk to if the weather is nice.
4)perhaps a museum or church or reason for going but really we're not too interesting in site seeing as we will be in drinking champagne, being together and seeing what happens...
I was thinking Riquewihr or Ribeauville but I'm afraid they'll be too touristy for what I'm looking for... something small is okay if it has a little bit of joie d'vivre...
what will the weather conditions be in October in Alsace, specifically the Riquewihr, Colmar region? What basic clothing and packing tips can you provide for our trip to that region next month?
Hello, I have been told that this christmasmarket in ribeauvíllé , riquewir is absolutely fabulous for a child of 6 years old. I would like to visit this market with my friend and child. Does anyone know of a hotel that is directly at the market site. And if possible tell me more about this market.
I want to drive there spent 2 nights and in the middle visit the market
We live in Amsterdam.
Thank you so much for your information.

My sister and I will be traveling to Alsace region during the week of December 18th. I would love some recommendations on Christmas Markets, towns to visit via public transportation, wine tasting, a nice budget hotel or b&b and anything else that is off the beaten path.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I am interested in the Alsace region, but having never been there, I'm wondering where would be a good place that is accesible by public transport. We are interested in tasting wine and staying at a nice B&B for 3-4 days in September.
