I am taking the ferry from Tangier into Algeciras. I wanted to rent a car there, drive into Gibraltar for a bit and then continue my trip through Spain, driving to Madrid. Can I drive a rentacar that I rent in Algeciras into Gibraltar? The rental company I was researching was Alamo
I hired a car in Malaga and took it to Gibraltar with no problems.
I think so, but you'd better ask.
You can drive around from Algeciras to La Linea and enter Gibraltar. Or park outside at la Linea and then walk in / take a bus from the border into town. Not far.
An alternative for you to consider.
You can take a regular bus around the bay from Algeciras to La Linea then walk less than 10 minutes into Gibraltar. Gibraltar is small and you don't really need a car to look around. You would have to park and pay somewhere and sometimes the entry and exit formalities are tiresome.
You can hire a car in Spain at La Linea or even Gibraltar airport.
Car rental prices are quite competitive for cars hired within Andalucia. There is much demand during the busy summer months but out of these months prices can be low. But you could consider renting for within Andalucia and dropping off the car at some other place such as Codoba/Granada/Seville. Depends obviously on your plans.
Rail transport is good. Buses are everywhere.
As said above by Puerto Lover, why don't you park and walk into Gib. If you decide to drive the rented car into Gibraltar you would have no problems whatsoever, only the queues which at times are too long.
