Can't help with specific places for budget eating. Although I always budget eat, it was so hot when I visited I didn't eat much at all. But there's loads and loads of budget choice in central Zagreb
: pubs, cafes, bars, fast food shops... Try Ul Tkalciceva, Ul Bogoviceva, Ul Skalinska,
in and around the market place etc etc.
Walk and walk and walk. Like all European cities, Zagreb is best seen on foot. Spot the murals: there are loads dotted about though those on Ul. K. Branimira
(on the wall bordering the railway) are now a bit faded.
Must-sees, in my opinion and in no particular order:1. Zagreb Cathedral2.
The Museum of Broken Relationships
Strangely compelling and, on occasion, very moving.3.
The Archaeological Museum in Zagreb
Full of wonderful stuff4
. The historical Upper Town
) Cobbles & historical buildings.5
. The absolutely amazing Mirogoj Cemetery
Get there on the bus & take a snack and drink...it's huge and stuffed full of stunning tombs & memorials). 6. St. Mark's Church
(dates from the 1200s)7.
Take the fFunicular
from the Lower Town to the Upper Town and see (and/or go into) Lotrščak Tower
, which dates from the 1200s.8.
Find at least some of the planets in Kozaric's 'Nine Views'
