We arrive in Yosemite in 2 weeks time . We've booked up the rest of our three week trip in San Fran and LA and the coast. We haven't booked Yosemite and now we're realising it's pretty booked up .We has planned to just book as we go. There is still accomodation just outside the park. Is it feasible to stay outside and just travel in every day ? I'm assuming that if you buy a pass you can go in and out of the park ?
Not sure when you posted your question, but, my answer: We're staying at Yosemite Blue Butterfly Inn - a small adults only Bed & Breakfast just outside the Arch Rock Entrance. It's the closest accommodations area possible to Yosemite Valley (California) (not in the park proper). Yosemite Blue Butter Inn gets great ratings. We will be there in September 2017. For the more popular national parks (Yellowstone, Yosemite) you need to book a year in advance. Yes it is possible to stay outside the park and drive in each day but it is much more time consuming as the traffic is bad. If you could, you might be able to book in Grand Teton. Otherwise - West Yellowstone is fairly close, but you still have 12 miles or so before you get to the edge of the park each day.
