Places of interest along the way

I can't offer many suggestions from Wisconsin through the plains. But if you come through Colorado, to Utah, I suggest heading to Moab. If you have the time, visit Arches National Park, and/or Canyonlands National Park, then continue south and drive through Monument Valley, crossing into Arizona. A good side trip is to Canyon de Chelly National Monument, although they may still have restrictions due to COVID. Check first to see. From there you can hit Petrified Forest National Park, then west on 40 to Flagstaff, and south through Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona.
