Where to stop between Los Angeles to San Diego

Driving from LAX to San Diego and want to make a stop at a beach to break up the drive. Best option for a half day trip? Hermosa Beach? Laguna Beach? Newport Beach? I'll be with my new husband and we're taking a casual Cali honeymoon visiting friends and exploring.

Depends on when you're coming. Laguna Beach is absurdly crowded in summer. If you're just looking for some relaxation on a big, sandy beach, try Huntington Beach. It's roughly halfway so it will be a nice stopping point. Hermosa Beach is pretty far North so you'll still have a long way to go from there. Newport Beach would also be a good spot, it's just south of Huntington, though I think it's easier to park in Huntington than Newport.

If you would rather get most of the drive out of the way before you stop, you can try North County San Diego. Carlsbad (California)has really nice beaches (I would know since I live there).

  2. Huntington Beach (attraction)
  3. Hermosa Beach (city)
  4. Newport Beach (city)
  5. San Diego (city)
  6. Carlsbad (California) (city)
