I am going on a Transatlantic cruise out of Civitavecchia Italy on November 6, 2016. We have been to Rome, Florence and Venice many times. We have 5 or 6 days before the cruise to sight see. We would like to see new places. Where would you recommend we go at that time of the year. We are open to flying into a new place and then getting to Civitavecchia Italy for the cruise. We have been to Germany, Austria, and Paris. The cruise will he going to Spain and Portugal before crossing the sea to San Juan P.R. where we will get off and fly back to the U.S. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for your help.
There are limitless choices in Italy for exploration. In 5-6 days I would guess that you probably want to see only one or two cities so you are not too rushed. Here are a couple of suggestions:
Tuscany would be a great choice if you are hoping to be somewhat near Civitavecchia for the cruise. You could skip nearby Florence this time if you like and this time head straight for Siena. Cortona would be another good choice.
If you are willing to travel a bit further, to the south of Rome is Naples. They claim to be the birthplace of pizza, so there is that. It is pretty easy to do a day trip to Pompeii from there as well.
