You have to go, it is seriously one of the most serene and beautiful places I have ever been! I've been going there every summer since I was a baby. Its about 10 minutes outside of Sierra City! Make your way over there next time you're in the area :)

Nuwara Eliya, pretty much everything about this city is beautiful. The sound, the smell, the memories, food, culture, historical structures, tea plantations, countless water falls, and altogether with many other things makes it an unforgettable place to visit.

It depends on my mood! If I really want to get away from everything then Connemara in the west of Ireland is the place. Out of season it's like going back in time! So is a walk in Parco dei Colli di Bergamo I also love, love Barjac in France and, for sheer joy, a boat on the Guadalquivir river in Seville

Besides my country, Quebec City. Quebec is so European! Old Quebec, (Unesco World Heritage)is a gem. The city is very romantic and exquisite. Besides the beauty of the city... Chateau Frontenac is a masterpiece.  A coupe de Froude destination!

For me Melbourne is the most livable place on earth and its right in the middle of Victoria a state like no other, you indulge in any of 3000 restaurants and bars that has now been voted the most livable city in the world for the 4th time in a row. Please do not tell anyone it's our secret

Even if we're just talking about natural places, I have a tough time narrowing it down. I'll hold myself to a trio:

1. Amazonas. Never have I felt the power of nature more fully than in the Amazon. The river, the rainforest, all of it—it is so immense and overwhelming that it almost knocks the wind out of me just to think about it.

2. Lake Superior, specifically Minnesota's stretch of the North Shore. This is my back yard, but it is such a hidden gem. The rocky coastline, the waterfalls and the epic scale of the wilderness all combine to make it an incredible place to be in nature.

3. The Nam Ou river, between Muang Khua and Muang Ngoi Neua in Laos. A place of stupefying beauty and serenity, with the languid river carrying you along through towering karst mountains—all with the benefit of very few people around.

Hi Heidi,

Happy Earth Day! There are many great places, especially those that bring us closer to nature, but I'll give you one that always tops the list:

Krka National Park - a perfectly peaceful place to watch nature in all its waterfall glory.
