Can I suggest Arizona? I find the state incredible with it's diverse topography and amazing opportunities to hike, eat and enjoy fantastic vistas. From Tucson in the south and the fantastic Saguaro National Park, desert museum to Sedona up north where you can easily spend 5 days (we have) - Pink Jeep tour, hiking the many canyons just minutes from the city (loved Fay Canyon & Bell Rock), eating Prickly Pear  cactus ice cream, Chapel of the Holy Cross, enjoying sunset from the airport overlook, shopping at Tlaquepaque, relaxing at the many spas and feeling the positive "energy", or just sitting back and enjoying the sunset playing off the magnificent red rock all around you!!

And don't forget the Grand Canyon National Park, while you are at it!!

If you have the time, head up north to Utah and enjoy Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park too, will make for the perfect trip with incredible sights and an appreciation of natural beauty while enjoying your 70th :)

Happy Birthday!!

How about Colorado

Southwest Colorado could be ideal. Spend some time soaking the hot springs at Pagosa Springs (Colorado). There also hiking, golf and delicious food. The patio at Alley House Grille would be a great place for a birthday party. The Springs Resort & Spa would be a great place to stay.  Or you could rent a house or condo at Wyndham Pagosa.

Then head to Durango (only 45 minutes) and check out this amazing foodie town. Some of our favorite eateries are Steamworks Brewing Company, Ken & Sue's, Brew Pub & Kitchen... and I could go on. It's hard to find a bad meal in Durango.

Rent bikes and ride the Animas River trail. Stop in at Ska Brewing Co and Animas Brewing Company along the way.

Of course you don't want to miss the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and if you come in the right season check out Soaring Tree Top Adventures (a true 5 star zip line experience that is only reachable by train).

I have written a lot about Southwest Colorado on my website, HeidiTown.com. You could swing by there for more info!

The British Virgin Islands! Beautiful mountains and the Caribbean waters are amazing. Lots of activities including hiking, snorkeling, diving (if you are certified), water skiing, fishing, sailing and of course fresh seafood!

Maybe you would like to charter a luxury catamaran? Of course, there are some great resorts and you can also rent houses. My nephew just came back from honeymooning on St John  and he had a great time!

Tanzania, Africa, its the best place you can have such kind of vacation you are planning, for one to two weeks you can have a wonderful time and memorable vacation in life time for doing a game viewing safari to Serengeti, Ngorongoro CraterLake Manyara National Park, etc. The best thing is; You can combine this kind of tour with Zanzibar beaches, one of the nice beaches in the world, Short hiking can be included in your plan, What is the most unique activity than doing a Local hunting with one of the primitive societies remain in Africa? By doing this day action with Bushmen (Hadzabe) you will not forget in your life time. Welcome.

The British Virgin Islands! The Caribbean Sea is stunning and if you are into charter boats you can rent one for a week or more. I'd suggest a luxury catamaran that way you get an ever changing view and every night you spend at a new anchorage - a new island every day. Try Virgin Gorda, Norman Island, Salt Island, TortolaPeter Island - just to name a few!

Hello Susan,

I will start with a fact: Princess Elizabeth and Phillip were touring Kenya when she was crowned the Queen of England while spending time at the Treetops Hotel; a treehouse, offering the guests a close view of the local wildlife in complete safety. I recommend this amazing place Treetops LodgeSecondly, Watamu and Diani Beaches in Kenya was rated among the top 25 Africa’s best beaches. WatamuDiani BeachAnother spectacle is the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve known for the massive wildlife migration in the world. Masai Mara

Thanks.

I just took my Mom (for her 80th) to the resort  Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara.  We had a fabulous time!  There are so many activities there for all ages....swimming in the ocean or pools, tennis, hiking the hills, wine tastings at local wineries, a beautiful spa, great food.....I could go on......

I am a picky traveller and the Bacara resort did not disappoint on any level.  The rooms are all in Villas spread out across the hillside.  Most of the rooms look out to the ocean.  There were families there with little kids, too. But, there are several pools to choose from if you prefer a quiet atmosphere.

The Bacara hotel staff went out of their way to do special things for my Mom the entire trip.  I highly recommend Santa Barbara.  There is also a Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara (closer to Montecito) that I can also recommend.

If summer, try Jackson (Wyoming) or Maine.
If winter, try Costa Rica or Chile. Chile will be cold at night, but warm during the day.

Only go to Rajasthan if 1. you are vegetarian, 2. you don't mind cat-size rats running around you in the park, and 3. you don't mind taxi drivers taking you to shops even if you don't want to buy anything... The only good place in Rajasthan is the desert (Jaisalmer).

Well, Zita, I assume your experience was not up to your expectations. But let me tell you one thing, If you would have booked it though some good tour operator you wouldn't have to face, such kind of awkward situation (unnecessary Shopping). secondly, I don't know which place you visited in Rajasthan, as Rajasthani non vegetarian dishes are quite popular especially mutton dishes. and who suggested you to visit a park? There are much more beautiful and interesting places in Rajasthan than a park

Azores would be good. Islands like Sao Miguel Pico Island and Faial Island have great hiking and good places to eat local fish. And it's a unique place where few people holidays.
