Mike from Nashville asked

What's a song that makes you want to pick up and travel?

For me, there a few songs that, when I hear them, make me want to immediately get on a plane and fly somewhere I can explore. What are those songs for you?

Gypsy by Fleetwood Mac. This song always makes me want to go out and do great things

or Time To Run by Lord Huron (such a traveling jam)

I am a Jimmy Buffett fan, a Parrothead as they call us. Jimmy, especially in his early years, wrote a lot of great  songs.  Great stories really.  The songs, by and large you don't hear on the radio.  Many tell of his, or a story of another's adventures, travel, discoveries.  Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes does it in a heartbeat, as does One Particular Harbor.  But a few lesser known songs really speak to me.  Make me want to search for something deeper; to really see, understand and appreciate the world.  That's what a song like That's What Livin' is to Me does very well, and in particular Far Side of the World.

Haha you two are great! Totally with you on the Buffett train. One of those songs for me is "Wings" that he and Will Kimbrough co-wrote. Love that tune. Great answer, man. Cheers!

Though it doesn't have much to do with travel... this is my travel inspiration:

When I wake up, (when I wake up),
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you, (Yeah I know)
When I go out, (when I go out, )
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you, (who?)
If I get drunk, (If I get drunk, ) well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you, (yeah) Yes!
And if I haver, (when I hav... What does haver mean, ) yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you, (It's on 'ere)

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

Best,
Jenna

The song is Shimabalaie by Maria Gadù. It's a Brazilian song and it makes me think about the freedom of traveling and the smell of ocean air. My husband says: The Passenger by Iggy Pop. We have just discovered on Wikipedia a note that says that he wrote it in the 70s when he was riding the public transportation in Germany. He must have been inspired by the feeling of traveling :)

I first heard it in Iceland and it's really cheerful and catchy - I can imagine listening to it whilst hiking a mountain or riding a bus somewhere. And the foreign language makes it feel like you really are travelling...

Bright Eyes - Another Travelin' Song

There's more to the song but these lyrics nail it : )

"Well I'm changing all my strings
I'm gonna write another traveling song
About all the billion highways and the cities at the break of dawn
Well I guess the best that I can do now is pretend that I've done nothing wrong
And to dream about a train that's gonna take me back where I belong

Well now the ocean speaks and spits and I can hear it from the interstate
And I'm screaming at my brother on a cell phone he's far away
I'm saying nothing in the past or future ever will feel like today
Until we're parking in an alley
Just hoping that our shit is safe"

Tom Petty - Runnin' Down a Dream & the ever classic Free Fallin'

@Mike M. - Haha, I almost searched for different links with no music video. It was the first time I had seen both videos and that exact word came to mind. Awful. Like so awful, they detract from the song, haha.

The whole album by Saint Germain - Tourist

Perfect name for an album inspiring travel but start with the track So Flute, then Rose Rouge and go from there - always gets me wanting to move and visit new places! It feels old world and new world at the same time with jazz, latin and pop music influences.

I fell in love with that song on my first trip to London in 2011, and I listen to it nearly every time I visit somewhere new...

Let me take you far away

You'd like a holiday

Exchange the cold days for the sun

A good time and fun

Let me take you far away

You'd like a holiday

Exchange your troubles for some love

Wherever you are

Let me take you far away

You'd like a holiday

Longing for the sun you will come

To the island without name

Longing for the sun be welcome

On the island many miles away from home

Be welcome on the island without name

Longing for the sun you will come

To the island many miles away from home
