I'm going to be in West Des Moines next month and will be on a pretty tight budget. I'm looking for the best free and inexpensive things to check out! I love the outdoors, art, museums, you name it. Thanks!
You could go to the Farmer's market downtown Des Moines on Saturday mornings (or Valley Junction farmers market on Thursday from 4-8 pm). If you go to the downtown market, walk over to the sculpture park! Also, for art, check out Art On The Campus (Free) in West Des Moines. It's an annual outdoor art exhibit featuring 13 sculptures created by 11 Iowa artists. Check out Grey's Lake ... Yoga in the Park Saturday mornings (free) from 9 am to 10 am and if you're up for it you can rent paddleboards there for around $5 and canoes for around $5/half hour. On Thurdays head over to Jasper Winery and listen to live music for free from 6-9pm (you can purchase wine/beer and some food there)! Hope this helps!
