The vendors at Eastern Market normally have a wide selection of everything including clothes, art, etc. and a pretty decent farmers market right next door. Excellent way to shop a lot of unique product and grab a fresh and interesting bite to eat.

I am a HUGE HUGE fan of Covet in Arlington (Virginia).  It has the cutest jewelry and gifts for all types of people.  The best part is that they have a local focus so you know you are supporting your neighbors!

I really like going into Georgetown (Washington DC). There's a Kate Spade since you like designer but my favorite boutique shop would be Sherman Pickey right up the street.

Dupont Circle has a great shopping too. A lot of smaller boutiques like Proper Topper and if you want some seriously amazing shoes, Betsy Fisher always has cute options!

Treasury Vintage for vintage shopping and If you're into music, I love Crooked Beat Records. A super cute music store (posters, vinyls, etc..)

I'd avoid the Metro Center, nothing but your regular department stores (Forever 21, H&M)
