Dog-Friendly Hiking Near Washington, DC

We're always looking for new places to hike with our pup, so I'd love any suggestions for good hiking spots (easy-moderate) within a 2 hour-drive from DC.  Also, any locations near good restaurants with pet-friendly patios are a huge plus.

We've done some of the big ones (Great Falls, Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, etc.), but would also like to find some smaller, scenic hikes that may be not be as well known.

Thanks in advance!

I recommend Sky Meadows State Park out towards Delaplane, VA. It's off Rt. 17, between I-66 and Rt. 50. It's a beautiful park with some great trails (some fairly hilly) and a cool old historic home and visitor center on-site. There's camping available too.

Afterwards (or before), check out the adorable town of Upperville and Hunter's Head. It's very pet friendly (even sell farm-made dog/cat food) and has a great menu and beer/wine list!

  2. Delaplane (attraction)
  3. Upperville (attraction)
  4. Hunter's Head (restaurant)

Hi! 2 hours west of DC is a tiny town Capon Bridge , which is 7 miles from Ice Mountain where you can hike a trail with your pooch to see a beautiful vista of the valley or the natural wonders, the ice vents, below The mountain.
