Second part of the trip

Just across into Tennessee from Ashevilleis  Knoxville, or you could continue down to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park  which is across the NC-TN line.  Proceeding  through Tennessee you come to  Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's estate) outside of Nashville.  Memphis is three hours across Tennessee.  The three Kings of Memphis are Martin Luther King (this is where he was shot), BB King and Elvis.  The last stop is  Hot Springs which is a National Park and you can actually take a bath in the springs or drink the water. And then in a couple of hours you are at the state line of Texas at  Texarkana (Texas)

First part of the trip (which I am having a lot of trouble getting posted, so I am starting over)

Just 2 or three hours south of Washington, DC is  Charlottesvillewhich has both Monticello and Ashlawn-Highland (Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe's homes).  An hour past that is Lexington (Virginia)Lexington, VA with Stonewall Jackson's house and the Stonewall Jackson House and Cemetery,  VMI with the George Marshall Museum and Washington & Lee University.  Drive down part of the Blue Ridge Parkway - North Entrance   (it is hard to put the BRP on a map because it doesn't go through towns, but you can get on in various places including Roanoke and go down toAsheville with the old historic Biltmore Estate
