Visiting Mai Chau in May

We are intending to visit the north of Vietnam in May. We think that we will visit Hanoi- Halong-Sapa during 3 weeks. We heard that Mai Chau of Vietnam in May is beautiful, so it is worth to add Mai Chau into our itinerary? and how long we should spend in Mai Chau as well as how to get there?
P/s: we are a family with 2 kids (12 yrs old and 10 yrs old)
Thanks a lot

Mai Châu District is an ideal place to explore the daily life of local people. To do that, it is the best to do homestay. Homestay services are quite popular here, especially Lac Village. Besides, you can take a Mai Chau bicycle tour. Just one or two days, you can nearly explore almost all the things in Mai Chau.

You can cover quite a few places within 3 weeks. Besides Mai Châu District, you can add Ninh Bình Province or Mộc Châu District into your plan. Mai Chau and Moc Chau are not much different, so just choose one.

My family came here with teenagers too. Don't worry, there are no dangers there. Coming with a local guide and a group, it will keep them in order and be safe for all treks. We took this trip through tt. Mai Châu Trek, the local guide was really supportive. Contact with them if you consider about treks.

If you do not travel experiences before, the local agency is the best choice for you. Personally, you should refer to more than 2 agencies to compare price and services as well. May will be peak season in Mai Châu District, so you should book tour and hotel in advance.

Hi Linda,

Mai Chau is very nice, and less touristic than Sapa now. In Sapa, everyone likes to trek to remote area to avoid from crowded central town.

You can stay one or 2 nights in Mai Chau, it takes 4 hours by land (car, van). It's cheaper than go to Sapa too. Maybe, Mai Chau Lodge has a mini package with amazing local food, and soft trek and bike for kids, swimming pool to cool down... I really enjoyed the lotus lake in Mai Chau Lodge on my stay there. Plus a kayaking on the lake besides, lovely!

Take care,

Anh

For Halong Bay Vietnam, you should book cruise tour for traveling in there which is the best way to explore the beauty of Halong Bay. Booking cruise tour in Hanoi will get more promotion than booking in Halong such as free transfer from Hanoi. For Mai Châu District, May is the ideal time for visiting the destination but you should remember that the summer in Vietnam is very hot, so you don't forget to bring sunscreen to protect your kids.

May is summer in Vietnam, good time to see rice terrace in mountainous area as tt. Mai Châu. It takes about 2h30 minutes from Hanoi, you can rent private car for your family. Overnight at homestay is great experience, stay there one or two nights depends on your time

The best weather extends from September to May with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. With sunny day, you can join Mai Chau cycling tours or Mai Chau motorbike tour to explore this beautiful valley. You can spend 2-3 days in Mai Chau
