Mollie from Perth asked

What are 5 things you HAVE to do when visiting Vienna?

I am spending three days in Vienna with a friend in the summer, and we are wondering what are the 5 things you HAVE to do when visiting Vienna? We have a limited budget as we are backpacking, but all suggestions are welcome.

Hi Mollie,

Vienna is a REALLY beautiful city, with wonderful architecture and museums. It is also pretty compact with a museum quarter where many of  the great museums are located. Why not take a walking or segway tour of the city? There are very good value tours for €15 or €20 that will give you a great overview of the history of the city and show you where things are. Most are for 2 hours and this will give you an idea of the places you would like to revisit. Here are my top 5:

Kunsthistorisches Museum

Vienna State Opera

3. Walk around the Schönbrunn Palace gardens4. Rathaus

5. Take a wine tour. We went into the hills over Vienna and tasted the new wine with typical Viennese food.

There are lots of other things to do, visit a coffee house for Sachertorte (Cafe Sacher is good but a little expensive) The Schönbrunn Zoo is worth a visit (and I have an issue with zoos in general) See a concert in Musikverein or hire a bike and cycle along the Danube River

Have a great time.
