If your trip is in the next few months, I would take advantage of our fresh seafood and local wines and look at staying Downtown Vancouver.  Use a travel website and find the best deal you can that is at least 2-3 stars and you should be fine.

If you stay downtown you can walk most places or its within a $15-25 taxi ride.  Granville Island, Kitsilano Beach, and Stanley Park will satisfy your picture taking needs and then check out Gastown for shopping and dining.

Restaurants showcasing local are Burdock & CoFable KitchenEdible CanadaL'AbattoirBlacktail RestaurantFarmer's Apprentice RestaurantForage, so many to list, but these are some of my favoirties.  The asian restaurant seen is also exciting in Vancouver, you could check out GuuHapa Izakaya - Coal HarbourMinamiTojo's RestaurantRamen Jinya.
