Vince from Sarasota asked

Vail or Brekenridge for a family reunion?

I am planning a family reunion in either Vail or Breckenridge. Which of the 2 places would be better in terms of things to do in the summer (June or July), beauty of views, better restaurants, stores, activities, amenities, facilities, etc.

We will have 3 genrations including teen-agers so I want to please all. I will rent a house for 12 for one week. Where will I find better accomodations and fun things to do?

Any suggestions and preferences from people that have been in both places are appreciated.

Hi Vince,

I would recommend staying in Breckenridge, the town has a great feel and it's more homey. They offer activities such as the Alpine Slide and a hot springs near by. There is an amazing outlet mall in Silverthorne which is just a few exits down. The great thing about staying in Breckenridge is that you can always drive to Vail, it is that close! You can spend the day on the mountain there in Eagles Nest Wilderness, they also have fun activities for the teenagers at night and the gondola price is half off after 5. Vail Village has a skate park too if the teens are looking for something more adventurous. I highly recommend you visit Avon as well, they have an amazing indoor water park that is too much fun. Check out Minturn they have a really good steakhouse where you can chose you specific cuts and cook them to your preference. There are many things to do and I know you and your family are going to have a memorable experience.

Hello Vince.

I live in Denver, have been in CO for almost 40 years!  In my opinion, Breckenridge and Summit County have it all over Vail.  Look at a map and you'll see Lake Dillon, Frisco, Copper Mountain, Silverthorne and Keystone.  You can ride bikes all over the area on paved trails.  Some bike companies will take you to the top of Vail pass and you ride back, downhill all the way on a paved trail, along incredible scenery and a creek.

There are so many good restaurants in the area as well.  And most are less expensive than Vail.

If you really want to see Vail, drive over Vail pass and into town for a day.  About a half hour from Frisco.

Great hiking all over the place.  Stop at any forest service office or visitor center for friendly knowledgeable advice on trails.

Would you be willing to give me some tips on Sarasota?  I'll be on Siesta Key in January.

Thanks...Leslie

In the summertime, Vail is a great choice. They have a very inclusive community and their city shops are great for all ages. I highly recommend taking a Gondola Ride up to the top of the mountain. It is great for the whole family!
