What to do around East Coast Region during summer ?

I am in US right now in Virginia. What to do around East Coast Region during summer time? I am not interested in going to cities, downtown or museum. I am more into natural scenery or road trip. Any ideas?

Try driving through "Down East" Maine, including Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Camden (Maine). The scenery is beautiful, with a rugged coastline, lighthouses, little historic villages, classic sailing yachts, and many opportunities for fresh steamed lobster.

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Acadia National Park (amusement park)
  2. Bar Harbor (city)
  3. Camden (Maine) (city)

One place in Virginia that's fun to go in the summer is Chincoteague Island and Assateague Island National Seashore. (Despite the marker showing it in Maryland, Assateague is shared by two states - the Maryland part is more wild and good for camping). Because Assateague is a national park property, you get a nice beach without the crowds of Ocean City or Virginia Beach. Other popular activities include biking around both islands, kayaking or canoeing, and keeping an eye out for the wild ponies that make the area famous. Just avoid Pony Penning week (July 25th-Aug 1st), unless that's the point of your trip - that's the one time both islands get ridiculously crowded.

  2. Assateague Island National Seashore (attraction)
