I am from India and would like to get suggestions on planning an itinerary for a trip to Turkey - not much of an adventure enthusiast, I would instead love to explore the culture, the tastes and smells.
Budget - $1000 (?) if possible
I think exploring Istanbul certainly would be a great choice for some of your time, including the Old City and the Bazaars. After, you might enjoy a short flight on domestic air from Istanbul to Bodrum. I do not have a hotel recommendation for Istanbul in that price range, but I do have a great hotel recommendation in Bodrum which would be SuHotel. Also in Bodrum, you could see the with the Underwater Marine Archeology Museum inside. There are numerous domestic airflights inside Turkey, that if booked now are quite reasonable especially on Pegasus Airlines, and as Turkey is quite mountainous, with only a short time to visit, I think you may want to fly from place to place. And while I really like Bodrum, it is more of a tourist resort town than a true inland town or village, that might have a stronger true Turkish cultural feel.
Istanbul would be the best choice for you. Here you can find smells and tastes from all the way from Anatolia Tüp Bebek Merkezi. And culture... what can be more interesting than the capital of the Ottoman Empire with it's Topkapi Palace (early period), marvelous Dolmabahçe Palace (1856), Ciragan Palace Kempinski, eylerbeyi and Yıldırım Beyazıt Anadolu Lisesi.. and of course Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia (5th century), Chora Church, Galata Tower, Maiden's Tower...
Fir your stay I can recommend you Bera Flats in the city center. You can find it on Airbnb.
Hope that this info will be useful.
