I'll be traveling with an adventuresome friend in Turkey during December. We've got about 4 weeks to see the country on a $ budget. We're both interested in the scenic outdoor areas and spiritual aspects of Turkey: sufi mysticism, Rumi's history, etc... We're not immune to camping, cooking our own food, or crashing with friends we meet along the way. If you've got recommendations, we'd surely like to hear them. Thank you in advance.
I would recommend that you start in Istanbul.
For great outdoors and spiritual aspects places like Goreme and Konya are fantastic, but in december these places can be very cold and snow is a real possibility so think of that if you decide to go there.
The south coast and the west coast will have milder weather and you might wanna consider places like Olympos Village KalkanEphesus and Bodrum. All very pleasant and scenic places with warmer weather than central Anatolia.
