Tour of south-east Asia over 3 months - where to start?

Im planning a tour of Southeast Asia starting in late feb for 3 months. I want to cover Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and possibly touch China. What’s the best way to do this? Any recommendations on how to go about making an itinerary?

Hi Jim,

It depends on your budget, comfort level, interests, and experience. The countries you mentioned will offer lots of eye-opening experiences and endless things to do and see.

I'll start off in Bangkok, Thailand. Get familiar with the weather, food, and culture. You get lots of flight options when you fly into Bangkok. Then, off to Chiang Mai and the beaches in the south. After about three weeks, I'd go to Siem Reap. Siem Reap is about an hour flight from Bangkok. Angkor Wat complex is the main attraction in Siem Reap.

Next to Laos to the unmissable Luang Prabang and the hills surrounding the town, namely Hmong and Khmu villages. You can fly from Siem Reap to Luang Prabang or if you're adventurous try the bus. Here's Journey Era's journey by bus from Siem Reap to Vientiane and Luang Prabang. https://www.journeyera.com/siem-reap-luang-prabang-bus/

Last but not least to Vietnam. Fly from Luang Prabang to Hanoi (about an hour's flight). Places to visit in Vietnam: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa, Danang, Hoi An.

Things to consider: tourist visas, food safety, vaccinations (you may need it).

Hi there,

do you have a flight yet? Depending on where you land, different itinerarys are good. Bangkok often is a good starting point, because many planes land there. If it is so, you can stay there for some days, because there are plenty intersting things to see in the city. The architecture is just great. From Bangkok, it is easy to travel to Cambodia. Do you want to visit Siem Reap? I also recommend the Cambodian beaches over the beaches in Thailand. From Cambodia, you can travel to Vietnam by boat (Ho-Chi-Minh City) and after that, up to the north to 라오스(Laos) and China

Greetings!

Hi Jim! When planning a trip, I tend to look at 3-5 UK-based tour operators (I am based in the UK so know some pretty reputable operators and have worked for a few too), see what they offer, then piece together an itinerary from there. This overcomes overwhelm somewhat and ensures you're getting the most out of your stay.
