Declan from Magherafelt asked

Apartment hunting

My girlfriend and i are moving to Toronto early next year. What are some areas of Toronto that are safe and affordable? We're looking at renting a single room apartment once we arrive.

Any other advice for apartment hunting in Toronto?

Hey Declan, most of the places in Toronto are completely safe to live, I would suggest you check Kajiji ( I'd say it's number one website to find a place here. Location-wise you should know two things GTA(Greater Toronto Area) you can see on the picture and City of Toronto much smaller area which is the heart of the Toronto. I would recommend you get a place somewhere in the city of Toronto if you want to experience big city life and stuff like that. The only place I would not recommend you to live is Jane and Finch neighbourhood in the northwest end of Toronto. Other then that it depends on personal preferences and budget.

Toronto is a big city. First you want to know in which area you want to live. Are you planning to work here? Are you planning to study? I am from Montreal. When I moved to Toronto I had a job waiting for me so I came to Toronto in July and stayed at one of The University of Toronto Housing and I searched for a place to live that would not be to far to commute. You don't want to spent one and half hour in traffic jam commuting  everyday. Here are 6 websites that can help you.

This website below come highly recommended to find a place to rent. Toronto is divided in neighborhood. You can see them in the navigation bar. Which makes it easy when you know in which area you want to live.

Toronto is a very safe city only a few pockets are to be avoided. These rental agencies will tell you where not to live. Good luck!

Hey Declan!

Toronto is wonderful and you are lucky to come in summer! Some of the sources to check when looking for an apartment or room are kijiji and AirBnB , with the latter being VERY suitable for short-term rentals! As for the locations, I find Parkdale pretty cool-still being close to downtown and streetcars, you have a wonderful park, public outdoor pool, just a paradise for evening promenades, jogging, BBQs, swimming and cycling. There are also huge variety of cuisines, grocery stores, pubs and coffee shops!

Hope it will help,
