Tofino, Vancouver

How do we get from Vancouver City to Tofino in August?

We are going to Tofino for three nights.  We can travel two different methods.  One on the way in and one on the way out.  Our base will be Vancouver City.  We'll travel in mid-August.

There are a few ways to get to Tofino from Vancouver Island. You can take a bus from Vancouver to Tofino which runs daily and will take ~7h. (

You can rent a car and drive yourself. For convenience sake, I would rent it in Vancouver. If you want to save the car fee on the ferry, rent it in Nanaimo. It might be nice to have a car there, to check out the various beaches around Tofino and Ucluelet

KD Air offers daily flights ( if money is no object.

In Tofino check out Tacofino Cantina IncTofitianSoBoTofino Brewing Co.Tofino Coffee Company. For beaches...Long BeachCox BayNorth Chesterman Beach and Tonquin Beach

Option 1. Rent a car and drive to Horseshoe Bay(West Vancouver ). About a half hour.

Take the ferry Nanaimo. About 2

hours and multiple departures a day.

Drive to Tofino. About 3 hours.

Option 2. Rent a car and drive to Tsawwassen.

About an hour.

Take ferry to either Nanaimo or Victoria. About 2 hours and multiple departures to Nanaimo and Victoria.

Drive to Tofino. About 4.5 hours from Victoria.

Option 3.

Take the bus. Greyhound has service from Vancouver to Tofino that includes the price of the ferry. The bus does no go on the ferry though.

It is also possible to fly to Victoria or Nanaimo and drive from there.

If you have the time I would recommend spending a day or two in Victoria. It is a very beautiful city with lots to do.

Also all ferries are run by BC Ferries who are in the middle of rearranging schedules and such. I would recommend booking your ferries ahead of time.

if you drive, it is about 250 km from Vancouver to Tofino, including a ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. It is a very scenic drive and there are interesting things to see along the way in Naniamo,  ParksvilleQualicum BeachPort Alberni.

You can also fly in to the Tofino - Long Beach airport from Vancouver (YVR) on Orca Airlines or from Seattle on Kenmore Air.

i would recommend renting a car and driving - you need a car to explore Long Beach. It is a very scenic 40km drive from Tofino to Uculet.

You can either take a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo with BC Ferries or fly by plane to Nanaimo. From there we drove, it's about 5-6 hours to Tofino I believe. Should be able to rent a car at the airport.
