I will be traveling to Thailand with my parents (I am 25). We are all big travelers and dislike the touristy/resort thing. We are looking for a destination (or possibly 2) with some strong culture (good restaurants, interesting markets/craft, beautiful temples or ruins), but also close to natural beauty (we would love to take day trips to near by hikes, boat trips, hidden beaches etc).
Any recommendations that might fit all these criteria? Krabi seems to keep popping up, but I'm curious to know if there is also a lot of cultural vibrancy there as well as the beautiful scenery. We're not just looking for a place to sunbath and snorkel all day
Old town Petchaburi province is recommended for visiting Phra Nakorn Kiri - the old palace on the hill.
Then go to the beach at Hua Hin. This beach town is fulled of good restaurants, markets and crafts. Stay here.
There are other cultural heritage sites nearby such as Maruekhathaiyawan Palace and Prayanakorn Cave.
