South East Asia off the beaten path?

Hey,
I backpacked Thailand and South-East Asia a few years ago. I'm now thinking about going back and explore more places off the beaten track. Any suggestions? Has much changed in the last 6 years?

I would say that Thailand has changed quite a lot. More tourists. Don't go to the touristy places. Try Koh Lipeand the small islands around. People do live there, and they don't have an airport, you can only reach by boat. There are some hotells but quite a slow life.

You can change the route, other SEA countries are interesting too. At present, travellers heading to Myanmar.

Both historic places and the coast are fantastic. Especially, sea and islands are off the beaten paths.

Indonesia is the largest country in the region. You can avoid the top rate destination as Bali to other places such as Raja Ampat Islands.

Philippines is the hidden gem!
