Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam

Is traveling to Thailand & surrounding countries around New Years a good idea?

I would like to go on a solo trip for about a month to Thailand after visiting family in Germany at the end of this year. Is this a good time to go? What areas do I need to visit while I am there? Any good group tours around this time of year?

Also, I was thinking about visiting Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, or Vietnam after... Which one would you prefer? The best cities to visit there also would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

I am doing this this year!  Wife and I are going for just over 3 weeks.  We start in Bangkok for 5 nights.  Then overnight train to Chiang Mai for 6 days.  After that, we fly to Siem Reap to see Angkor.I have us planned to end on the beach in Koh Changto unwind.  On the way back, we have a 22 hour layover in Hong Kongto meet up with some friends who live there.

I would love to hear suggestions also on what to do!
