So me and my buddies have planned the general layout of out trip in Thailand where we will be hoping around for 2 weeks. We have roundtrip flights booked from NYC to Bangkok, but were wondering if we should book our flights cross country now in the States or once we get to Thailand? Which way is cheaper?
We know we will need to fly out from Bankok to Koh Samui on Jan 1 and from Phuket to Bankok on the 10th.
Without going into too many details we plan on hoping around as follows:
NYC->Bangkok (4 days)-> (via plane) Koh Samui (2-4 days)-> (via bus) Krabi (1-2 days)-> (via boat) Phi Phi Islands (3 days)-> (via boat) Phuket (1 day)-> (via plane) Bangkok-> New York
If you're comfortable with low-cost carriers, you can fly from one side of Thailand to the other for less than $30. These prices fluctuate depending on when you buy them but I've managed to nab up cheap flights last minute with no problem (well, a few days before departure).
The only times I'd want to nab up cheap flights in advance is if they are during holidays. For example, right now a Bangkok to Chiang Mai flight is $125 on at Christmas day.
