Hi

We are staying in Taormina, then Syracuse. We are considering driving between the two areas-do you suggest hiring a car in the UK or can we hire a car in Taormina.

What are the other suggestions for transfer between these two areas

Definitely rent the car online from a Taormina rental agency. There are lots of them. Google for: Rent Car Taormina to get a list. By renting online ahead of time you can compare rates and reserve the type of car you want. You'll often get a batter rate by reserving online too.

If you're just going to be in Taormina for a few days you probably won't want a car until you're ready to leave.  If you'll be there longer, you might want the car for day trip excursions to nearby attractions such as Mount Etna or the beaches.

Parking could be expensive in Taormina. Check the place you're staying to see if they have parking available. Do the same for Syracuse.

The highway between Taormina and Syracuse is excellent. It is an easy and pleasant drive. If time permits, there is also lots to see in Catania too.
