Syracuse (New York) to Denver is over 1650 miles. It'll take you at least 25 hours to drive, possibly more. Imo, an overnight stay is essential for that length of journey but it's entirely up to you whether staying overnight in Des Moines (990+ miles from Syracuse) 'makes sense'. Personally, I'd prefer smaller, friendlier Iowa City (884 miles from Syracuse).
