St. Augustine: Key places to checkout/ explore

Hi! Doing a quick little 2 day getaway from Fort Myers to St. Augustine over New Years weekend. Looking for some must see places as well as off the beaten path places, too. I’m very into gardens/ flowers/ preserves and of course the history of the city...so any suggestions would be awesome!

I was there many years agtand have fond memories.

It was a day trip from Sarasota and i’ve probably forgotten the details but I do remember:

a sugar mill?  Very old and overgrown but I think I could imagine what it would have been like.

The Light House

It was a cloudy day so we knew we’d have to hurry if we had a chance of seeing At Augustine from up above.

We hustled and, I’m not making this up, the moment we reached the top the St. Augustine Light House they SHUT DOWN. Closed the window above me that lead to the porch that circled around the top of that black and white stripped light house. That higher perspective was robbed from me.

But I’d return those times.

I think I gave you wrong answer. St. Augustine is know for shops. It is the oldest city. Look for monuments. Go to Ripleys museum. Go to the wax museum. Most of all go to the beach. I navigate to The Conch Hotel in Daytona Beach and park and walk around Daytona. I like Ormand Beach. On the way back drive through the forest to Ocala. Drive to Silver Springs. Shop at Key West store in Ocala. Eat in the town Square.

I’m so sorry! I don’t know what happened but that was written all wrong! We are traveling to St. Augustine from Fort Myers! I actually live ten minutes from Sanibel and Captiva! I apologize. My initial post included St. Augustine and somehow it changed to Fort Myers.
